Relationships are hard work. The relationships we build with close friends, family members, coworkers, employers, and—of course—our significant others. The latter often take the most work, as we rely on these romantic relationships and these individuals to supplement our overall happiness in life. Often, we spend most of our time with our partners, which also means that disagreement or confrontation is bound to happen every now and then. All in all, our romantic relationships require time and maintenance if we want to keep them running well.

“Therapy is not about having someone take control

of your life or ‘feeling good.’ Therapy is about learning

to take control of your life and making changes.”

Couples counseling proves to help couples maintain their relationship—whether they are experiencing challenges that threaten their health or longevity, or they simply want to take precautionary steps to prevent their relationship from going downhill. In either case, a couples counselor with the proper expertise can step in and assist you.

If you’re looking for a caring, skilled provider, consider working with a counselor at Thriveworks North Little Rock. We employ the best of the best: mental health professionals who we know can get the job done, due to their skills, experience, and care. The couples counselors at Thriveworks are determined to help you and your partner improve or maintain the health of your relationship. If you think you could benefit from working with a couples counselor, call us today to schedule an appointment.

How Does Couples Counseling Work?

Couples counseling is a form of therapy in which the therapist—who specializes in helping couples—assists clients with improving relationship satisfaction. The exact approach to helping couples will vary from client to client, as every relationship is different. Each has different needs and requirements. That said, couples counseling often involves the following elements:

  1. Focus on a specific issue
  2. Engagement and commitment from both partners and therapist
  3. Solution-focused interventions
  4. Clear, agreed-upon objectives

To start, your counselor will likely ask you a few standard questions to understand the history and current standing of your relationship, as well as where you hope for it to go in the future. Then, the couples counselor will help you identify the issues at hand, establish goals for treatment, and begin to put together a clear plan for treatment. When you get to the treatment phase, your counselor will assist you in understanding why your relationship has taken a turn for the worst, or how to prevent it from taking a turn for the worst.

Issues Discussed in Couples Counseling

Again, your counselor will customize your counseling sessions to best fit your needs and goals for couples counseling. That said, there are common issues discussed in couples counseling. For example, couples counseling can help you address, manage, and/or move forward from challenges like:

  • Jealousy
  • Infidelity
  • Lack of trust
  • Issues in parenting
  • Different visions for the future
  • Financial distress

All of these challenges merit the intervention of couples counseling. It might feel like it’s impossible to work through these issues, but couples counseling can help you realize new solutions. Additionally, if the challenges in your relationship do prove unresolvable and you decide to part ways, a counselor can help you do so cordially. All in all, your counselor is on your side. Their goal is to help you and your partner live happier lives.

Thriveworks offers it all. It’s very easy to change therapist until you find one you like. Only thing I’d like to see change is the price for missed appointments. It keeps people accountable but over $100 is a bit harsh.

THRIVE ALIVE is working on a project and it’s “ME” and she also has my “FFL” as a patient too. Let’s just say she is a little Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey wrapped in to one! I’m not telling you her name because I don’t want her to get booked and deprive me of my scheduled appointments. I’m just saying this woman is a “MIRACLE WORKER!” I got this CM!

After working with Zack for a year I would say that he is very dependable and does show concern for his patients. There is never any problem with following hospital policy. Always a good man to have on your team.

I’ve known Zack, both professionally and personally, for the last 3 and a half years. He is a great person, and you won’t find anyone more dedicated to what they do. He truly cares about his patients and their outcomes, and he puts 110% of himself into his work to make sure they have the best outcomes possible. I consider myself lucky to have gotten the opportunity to work with him, and I know he will do great things now with Thriveworks.
