Starting Online therapy

What is online therapy?

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.

What is the best option for online therapy?

There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your specific needs and with whom you can form a professional connection with.

Is online therapy just as effective?

Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.

How long does online therapy last?

Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.

How much does online therapy cost?

At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.

Need more help deciding?

When you’re feeling stressed, down, or upset, what do you do? Maybe you call up a trusted friend to talk about your feelings. Or perhaps you throw on a pair of running shoes and head to your favorite trail. Maybe you just decide to crawl into bed and put on your favorite movie. While these are all normal ways to address and manage difficult emotions when faced with challenging times, sometimes we need a little extra help.

Change your thoughts and you change your world.” – Norman Vincent Peale

There is no shame in needing help when times get tough. You can’t be expected to know how to handle every problem that comes your way—it’s okay to reach out for a helping hand instead of letting your feelings continue to bottle up.

At Thriveworks Counseling in Dallas, GA, we have online counselors who can help you work through virtually any challenge that you’re facing. They would love nothing more than to work with you on your mental health journey. To get started, give our office a call, and one of our scheduling specialists will assist you. Or, view the counselor bios on this page and schedule your appointment yourself using the booking widget!

What Is Online Counseling and How Does it Work?

When you make the decision to start therapy, it can seem a little daunting at first, especially if you’ve never attended an online appointment before. However, online counseling is an easy and effective way to receive the mental health help you need. Here at Thriveworks, we offer our clients two great options to choose from. These are:

  • Telephone Counseling: You will choose a time and date that works best for your schedule. At the agreed-upon time, your therapist will give you a call. All you need to do is answer.
  • Video Chat Counseling: Similar to telephone counseling, you will choose an appointment time to meet with your counselor. Instead of receiving a phone call, you will be sent a link prior to your appointment. When it’s time, all you have to do is click on the link and you’ll be taken to the video chat room with your therapist.

Both options are easy, effective, and reliable. They offer added benefits that you don’t normally get with traditional in-person therapy such as convenience, comfort, ease, and reliability. Some of our clients feel like they can open up even more through online counseling than they would have in-person because they do not have the added pressure of sitting in the room with someone. Also, there’s no need to worry about losing the quality of care by selecting this option: Studies show that online counseling is just as effective as in-person therapy.

These are just some of the added benefits of teletherapy. When you’re getting started, we recommend utilizing both video chat and telephone counseling options to find which one best fits you and your needs.
