Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to engage in a career in mental health due to my experiences allowing my perspective of human nature and human emotion to be highly tied to all segments of life. I felt that counseling was a sacred art of acknowledging another human being's humanity and attempting to allow this person to feel safe to express who and what they are without the societal expectation or stigma interfering with this beautiful and unique process that all people should have the freedom to express. Engaging in counseling allows me to feel closer to the people around me through community and connection, and providing services to help others through kindness and compassion serving as the foundation allows me to know that I am doing exactly what it is that I was placed on the Earth to do.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I enjoy thoroughly working with all unique individuals! I find that each person has their own story and being able to illuminate the strengths and progress of those stories has become an important passion within my counseling career. I appreciate people who derive from different spectrums of life with sexuality, gender, culture, age, ethnicity, and other concepts of intersectionality.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with all clients. The practice of meeting individuals where they are in their lives is a special process, and I find that working with any client regardless of where they may fall on this spectrum is worthy and exciting for my practice!
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
One thing that I hope all clients know is that your presence is extremely appreciated here! When working with me as your counselor want to create a place where you feel comfortable and able to express yourself to the best of your ability.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Choosing to work at Thriveworks had been on my radar for some time while awaiting my Associate Professional Counselor license. After researching the company, I saw myself aligned with the expectations that I had created for myself as a clinician and the expectations that the company offered its clinicians. I felt that working at Thriveworks would provide me with a greater opportunity to work with various clients to obtain more clinical experience and understanding of mental health across all spectrums. I felt that Thriveworks would also ensure that I have an entire community behind me to support me as the counselor to perform my job to the best of my abilities.
What inspires you?
0
Receiving the opportunity to watch people become closer to accomplishing their personal goals in therapy inspires me heavily. I feel that as a counselor we tend to work with vulnerable populations at times, specifically those that may have experienced great adversity and difficulty; and at times, we see the effects of these circumstances quite closely due to our sessions and work with clients. Viewing another person's personal development and growth is an experience like none other for me. It inspires me to know that human beings are quite extraordinary creatures with their abilities to adapt, grow, change, understand, and heal. It is the highest honor I could be grated to have such an opportunity to see these occurrences in people, and I feel inspired to continue creating spaces for these occurrences to happen, as well as utilizing my perspective of other people to know that I too can continue to grow and heal as an individual person.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
My clients can expect the first session to be centered on discussing expectations for their time in therapy and obtaining information from the client to understand them on a deeper level to tailor my treatment to their goals and desires for change. I also ensure that the client and myself can work towards the safe space orientation that I strive to provide to ensure that clients can feel comfortable with discussing themselves, and comfortable with me viewing their world and working together towards their betterment.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Essentially, I would like for the first sessions to include obtaining a more personal understanding of the client, appreciating their presence with me in their session, and obtaining important information as to why they wanted to come to see me for counseling. I also like to ensure that during the first session, we can discuss the client's features of their name pronunciation, preferred pronouns, mental health background, and more information as to who they are to help me understand on a deeper level.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I am a firm believer that therapy is a collaborative process. I encourage open communication and value your input. Your active participation is essential, whether through honest dialogue, engaging in suggested activities, or reflecting between sessions.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy reading any type of book from fantasy to thriller to even having some nonfiction autobiographies in my Amazon cart, taking care of my house plants, and enjoying the nice weather outside to reground are all important activities for me!
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I love being able to explore new places and meet new individuals. I have had the great opportunity to travel to places and experience new perspectives of life relating to self-guidance and betterment, and feel that these experiences have made me who I am today.
