What is your go-to approach for anxiety therapy?

My go-to approaches for treating anxiety are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness therapy. I also incorporate some aspects of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). I find the best benefit in CBT because it focuses on helping the client change the way they think.

What tools do you teach in anxiety therapy?

I teach the following tools in anxiety therapy:

  • Grounding skills to help with panic attacks
  • Diaphragmatic breathing to aid in calming
  • Progressive muscle relaxation to aid in falling asleep and relaxing during the day
  • Cognitive restructuring to aid the client in getting out of anxiety thinking traps, like all-or-nothing thinking
If the client would like, I also provide education on natural supplements that may aid the client overall.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in anxiety therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in therapy when the scores on the PHQ-9 and the GAD-7 begin to come down. Another good indicator is when they tell me they are sleeping better and are beginning to enjoy living life instead of being worried about several aspects of their day/life/family.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement anxiety therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in anxiety therapy by practicing the skills they will learn in sessions, doing the homework we discuss in session, engaging in daily self-care like finding a few moments to relax, and finding time to exercise and eat more healthy foods.

What should someone do to prepare for starting anxiety therapy?

To prepare for your first anxiety therapy session, you can think about where anxiety affects you the most. What areas of your life would you like to see improve? We can discuss these areas and begin to work on them right away so you can experience relief.

Anxiety and depression are two mental illnesses that are extremely common in the United States. Unfortunately, though, only a portion of the people who battle these illnesses get the help and guidance they need to overcome them.

If you are struggling with anxiety and depression, or think you might be, you could greatly benefit from speaking with a mental health professional. They can provide you with the advice and assistance you need to manage or overcome these mental illnesses. Signs and Symptoms of Depression, Anxiety

Anxiety and depression have a lot of overlapping symptoms such as fatigue, irritability, changes in sleeping habits, and more. Some of the other common symptoms include:

  • Anxiety: Restlessness, lack of sleep, heart palpitations, constant worry
  • Depression: Intense despair, lethargy, lack of interest in previously enjoyable activities, thoughts of self-harm or suicide

Depression and anxiety are far more intense than feeling down or nervous. If you have experienced any of these symptoms for extended periods of time, consider reaching out to our office.

Treatment for Depression and Anxiety

Talk-based therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and management techniques are examples of methods that could be utilized. Lifestyle interventions, such as improved nutrition and exercise can also be recommended. In instances where you might be a good fit for a medication, your therapist will work closely with your primary care doctor or psychiatrist to ensure the correct medication is administered for your needs. Antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications provide many benefits and can significantly reduce your symptoms.

Through therapy, you can achieve things like:

  • Effective coping mechanisms
  • Better communication skills
  • Understanding how to identify your stressors
  • Reduced symptoms through management techniques

I am incredibly grateful for the support and guidance my therapist has provided. From the very beginning, she created a safe and welcoming space where I felt heard, understood, and truly cared for. Her approach is both compassionate and insightful, allowing me to work through my thoughts and emotions in a way that feels productive and empowering.. . What I appreciate most is her ability to listen without judgment while offering thoughtful perspectives that have helped me grow both emotionally and mentally. She has a way of making even the most challenging topics feel manageable, and I always leave each session with a sense of clarity and reassurance.. . There is absolutely nothing I would change about my experience. The level of care, professionalism, and dedication my therapist provides is exceptional, and I genuinely feel supported every step of the way. I highly recommend her services to anyone looking for a compassionate and skilled therapist who truly makes a difference.

I've been to other therapists and it didn't feel personable or helpful. I would always have to 'refresh' the therapist on topics we had already covered. I have yet to have to do that with Chris. He seems to always listen and he provides valuable insight, and helpful interaction. A very good experience so far!
