About
I believe therapy works best in space that feels comfortable, genuine, and judgment-free, where you can come as you are, say the thing you’re not sure you’re “supposed” to say, laugh when something is funny, cry when it hurts, and take a break when things feel like too much.
I’m a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with a Master’s degree from East Tennessee State University. I have over 10 years of experience in the social work field and enjoy working with people navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief or loss, relationship challenges, and difficult life transitions. I especially value helping clients make sense of experiences that may have left them feeling stuck, overwhelmed, guarded, or disconnected from themselves.
I want us to work together rather than me simply telling you what you to do. I draw from a range of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), existential therapy, and somatic practices.
My approach is warm and conversational, but I also like giving you practical tools and things you can actually use outside of our sessions. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, work through what’s been weighing on you, and feel a little more confident moving forward.

As someone with a broad experience of handling unique life changes including adjustments, trauma, loss and experiences with mental health, I have a unique understanding and appreciation for those balancing difficult life events, transitions and acquiring the unique set of skills to balance all of life's challenging, but fulfilling roles.
My name is Amanda Embry. I received a bachelors in Psychology and went on to pursue my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. For over 10 years, I have worked with ages from children to adulthood facing trauma, emotional and behavioral concerns, mental health and substance use concerns. I have worked with clients with depression, anxiety, trauma and, or family disruptions influencing a variety of mental health concerns. My goal for clients is for them to develop their own sense of autonomy to gain the skills to promote a healthy lifestyle and appropriate tools to find solutions and achieve their own individualized goals.
My approach is to meet each client where they are in their mental health journey to overcome challenges with mental health concerns relating to trauma, life events, and substance use. I utilize trauma-informed care to guide clients to solutions to manage life stressors and find a healthy and successful lifestyle in healing and developing their best selves.
With the right support, I believe everyone can achieve a well-rounded set of skills to cope with past and current life events, stressors and find solutions. With help, we are able to know our best selves and establish the way of thinking to achieve long-term success, stability and capacity to continue to grow through our journey.

OCD counseling is a specialized therapeutic approach aimed at supporting individuals coping with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The goal of this counseling is to help clients manage and alleviate the distressing symptoms of OCD by systematically addressing their obsessive thought patterns and compulsive behaviors.
In OCD counseling, Thriveworks Chattanooga therapists use cognitive behavioral techniques, including exposure and response prevention, to assist you in addressing and managing your obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. An OCD therapist will collaborate with you to identify and modify irrational thought patterns while gradually and gently exposing you to anxiety-triggering situations, helping to disrupt the cycle of obsessive-compulsive rituals and promote healthier coping strategies.
Thriveworks OCD counseling in Chattanooga, TN is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The number of sessions for OCD counseling is variable, contingent upon the individual’s unique needs, the severity of their condition, and their progress during treatment. Typically, Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), commonly used for OCD, comprises around 12 to 16 weekly sessions, but the exact session count can be customized based on the individual’s response to treatment and therapeutic objectives. Some opt for a more extended duration to comprehensively manage symptoms and address complex issues.
