About Amanda

My name is Amanda Embry. I received a bachelors in Psychology and went on to pursue my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. For over 10 years, I have worked with ages from children to adulthood facing trauma, emotional and behavioral concerns, mental health and substance use concerns. I have worked with clients with depression, anxiety, trauma and, or family disruptions influencing a variety of mental health concerns. My goal for clients is for them to develop their own sense of autonomy to gain the skills to promote a healthy lifestyle and appropriate tools to find solutions and achieve their own individualized goals.

My approach is to meet each client where they are in their mental health journey to overcome challenges with mental health concerns relating to trauma, life events, and substance use. I utilize trauma-informed care to guide clients to solutions to manage life stressors and find a healthy and successful lifestyle in healing and developing their best selves.

With the right support, I believe everyone can achieve a well-rounded set of skills to cope with past and current life events, stressors and find solutions. With help, we are able to know our best selves and establish the way of thinking to achieve long-term success, stability and capacity to continue to grow through our journey.

Get to know Amanda

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I chose a helping profession, in the form of mental health counseling as it was influenced by my own childhood experiences, the experiences of those I love, and my passion to achieve my own supportive mental health and to help others to feel empowered to achieve their own.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I find that clients are served best when they feel they can be in charge of their own mental health. With compassion for themselves and the understanding of the importance of support when faced with challenges, all people can be empowered to achieve what they want to experience in all areas of life.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I want clients to understand that they are in charge of the their own therapy process. It is not the clinicians role to "fix" anything but the ability to provide the client with tools to support their own achievement and healing.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

Throughout the first session and early stages, I want clients to feel comfortable to drive their own process and feel comfortable, at their own pace, to establish a trusting and supportive, long-lasting relationship.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

I will always value empathy and understanding that the client's experience is of their own and their own unique perspectives will drive the therapeutic relationship to be beneficial and successful.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

To understand where the clients are and their own views and perspectives can allow for therapists to assist in driving the therapeutic process to fit the client's own unique needs, strengths and goals.
