About
As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner deeply committed to culturally competent, compassionate care, I strive to create a safe, respectful space where you feel truly seen, heard, and empowered in your healing journey.
I am Dr. Chika Okeoma, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner dedicated to compassionate, culturally responsive care. I work with children, adolescents, and adults facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, mood disorders, and life transitions. Many of my clients seek clarity, emotional balance, and practical tools to improve their daily lives. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where individuals feel heard, respected, and empowered as they work toward healing and lasting mental wellness.
My approach combines evidence-based treatment, thoughtful medication management, and a holistic understanding of each person’s experiences. I collaborate closely with clients to develop personalized treatment plans that may include medication, therapy strategies, and lifestyle support to help them build resilience and meaningful progress.
I believe every person deserves to feel understood, supported, and hopeful about their future. No matter where you are in your mental health journey, you do not have to navigate it alone. Together, we can work toward greater balance, clarity, and well-being. I look forward to supporting you on your path forward.

As someone from a background that did not always understand the importance of mental health, I want to ensure that these needs are provided for all.
I am a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) with 3 years of experience providing compassionate mental health care across the lifespan. My background as both a nurse and a provider has shaped my calm, steady, and holistic approach to treatment. I help individuals navigate anxiety, depression, stress, and daily challenges by creating a supportive environment where clients feel heard, respected, and understood.
I earned my master’s degree in nursing from Ohio University and use a patient-centered, safety-focused approach to guide care. I draw from methods such as motivational interviewing to tailor treatment to each person’s needs and goals, helping clients build insight, strengthen coping skills, and create meaningful change.
I am committed to offering a warm, collaborative space where you can explore your mental health needs at a pace that feels comfortable. Your story matters, and you deserve care that honors your voice. When you feel ready, I invite you to schedule an appointment so we can take the next steps in your healing together.

Starting therapy can be really intimidating; I'm honored you're taking the first step with me.
Hi, I'm Geoffrey! I have been practicing as a mental health therapist for more than 3 years, during which time I finished my master's degree in clinical mental health counseling and became a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I have the privilege of serving adults struggling with eating disorders, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues.
My therapeutic approach is LGBTQ+ affirming and eclectic, incorporating elements from various modalities. I primarily use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).
Therapeutic success is contingent on a few factors: the right provider, with the right modality, at the right time. When you schedule an intake, we can discuss if I am the right provider, if I have the right tools for you, and if now is the right time for you to do therapeutic work. I encourage you to reach out and schedule an appointment.
You deserve dedicated time with a mental health professional — it can be life-changing.

Eating disorder therapy is a specialized approach aimed at assisting those who are grappling with a range of eating disorders. These disorders are significant mental health conditions characterized by irregular or unhealthy eating patterns and an intense focus on body weight and shape. Common conditions addressed in Eating disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder, and avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID).
At Thriveworks, Eating disorders begins with a thorough assessment and personalized treatment plan. Central to eating disorder therapy is psychotherapy, often employing cognitive behavioral therapy and other specialized techniques to target negative thought patterns.
The signs of an eating disorder can include:
CBT’s remission rate, according to some research, is generally between 50-30% for those seeking assistance for eating disorder symptoms.
The recovery rate for those seeking assistance with eating disorders depends entirely on the individual’s involvement in sessions, the severity of their symptoms, and their willingness to change their eating habits and relationship with food.
Eating disorder therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The length of Eating disorders will vary from one person to the next, dependent on their specific needs. Your therapist can help to determine what might be most beneficial for you.
For so many people, it brings both inward and outward shame to be afflicted with an eating disorder; it’s often worn as a badge of dishonor or even guilt. Too many individuals fight against eating disorders silently and alone, often acting in ways that will ensure their difficulties with food remain hidden. Unfortunately, keeping the struggle against eating disorders hidden almost always means keeping the struggle against eating disorders alive. You may have fallen prey to the belief that an eating disorder is a sign of personal weakness, or maybe that it’s even a sin.
At Thriveworks Counseling Charlottesville, VA we know the truth about eating disorders, and we understand that struggles of this nature are not signs of weakness or failure. It’s vital to realize that true healing is not just an issue of “willpower.” That’s why we are here – to help you along the journey to recovery. Reach out today to get started.
The onset of eating disorders is not a random occurrence. In fact, many circumstances and events can trigger eating disorders. Some contributing factors include:
Eating disorders may be more common than you think. In fact, over twenty-four million people suffer from an eating disorder of some kind in the United States alone, and only 1 in 10 of those people ever receive the proper care and treatment they need, according to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD).
Eating disorders can take hold of your life and lead you to believe that there’s no possible way to break free from their grasp; but Thriveworks Charlottesville, VA is here to help you understand and, more importantly, to believe for yourself that eating disorders do not own you!
You are capable of breaking free from the damaging habits and cycles that accompany these afflictions. It is possible to get your life back to the way it was before food became the enemy.
