About
As a woman of color, I offer a genuine, person-centered space where your lived experiences are honored and seen. I believe that healing begins when there is authentic connection, trust, and honest conversation.
Hi, I'm Simone, a licensed clinical social worker passionate about helping individuals navigate life's challenges. I strive to create a supportive space where clients can show up fully as themselves without judgment. I work with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, and I meet each client where they are while honoring their unique identities, strengths, and cultural and lived experiences. Many of the clients I work with are seeking to heal from past traumas, improve family dynamics, build healthier relationships, manage stress and anxiety, and reconnect with their sense of purpose while rebuilding their self-confidence.
My goal is to help clients feel empowered to grow, heal, and create lasting change. I believe therapy is a collaborative process that doesn't require you to become someone different—it begins with feeling heard and respected as you reconnect. My work incorporates CBT, DBT, solution-focused brief therapy, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing.
I believe that no matter where you are in your journey, you do not have to navigate it alone. Taking care of yourself is the most courageous act you can take. If you are ready to take the next step and begin your healing, I invite you to schedule an appointment. Together, we can work toward creating the best and healthiest version of yourself.

As an individual who has experienced personal trauma, depression, and anxiety, I have an authentic understanding of how the impact of life circumstances and navigating a new sense of self can be challenging.
Hello! My name is Lorin Dunston. I currently hold my LCSW and CADC, and I'm in the process of finishing my PhD. I typically work with those struggling with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, PTSD, grief, bipolar disorder, and more. I enjoy helping individuals find a new sense of self, love themselves fully, discover new coping skills, and navigate postpartum challenges.
I enjoy working in an informal setting — think of our sessions as talking to your best friend who can never tell your secrets. We'll use modalities like CBT, DBT, grief therapy, and interpersonal therapy. I like to first focus on getting comfortable with each other, creating goals, identifying what may be hard to discuss, and moving forward with growth.
I look forward to working with each and every one of you. I prefer working with ages 10 and above, but I'm always open to a new challenge. Feel free to schedule with me and let's work things out together!

As a therapist and human navigating my own growth, I meet you with curiosity, honesty, and care as we untangle what’s been heavy and reconnect you to what matters most by slowing down, understanding your patterns, and building a life that feels more aligned, not just manageable.
Hi, I'm Keyira, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a background in clinical care and community-based research. I'm passionate about helping clients make sense of the deeply human process of healing and change. I support individuals feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected due to trauma, life transitions, or relationship stress. Together, we explore your inner world, understand patterns, and build practical tools for regulation, boundaries, and self-trust. My approach is compassionate, trauma-informed, and grounded in ACT, CBT, and EMDR-informed care, helping you move forward with clarity, compassion, and intention.
I help clients build emotional regulation, increase self-awareness, and shift unhelpful patterns. You can expect a supportive space with practical tools to strengthen boundaries, process experiences, and move forward with clarity and self-trust. Together, we cultivate mindfulness, psychological flexibility, and lasting internal and external resources.
If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of where to begin, you're not alone. Change can feel heavy, but you don't have to navigate it by yourself. If you're open to exploring your experiences with curiosity and compassion, you're already taking a meaningful step. When you're ready, I welcome you to begin this process with me.

I work from a cognitive behavioral framework when working with grief and loss because I think it is important to look at your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, particularly if you are struggling with grief and loss.
It's important to give yourself grace, time, and space to mourn losses. Sometimes society and loved ones have unrealistic expectations or don't give us time to heal.
When clients are able to laugh, love, smile a bit, remember their loss, and take steps to improve their daily lives, I feel like that is wonderful progress.
As a culture, we sometimes forget to do things to honor and remember our losses in a way that works well for each of us. Whether it is photo albums, writing out favorite stories, a trip, or a family dinner on specific dates, I think it important for each person to find a way to make meaning from our difficult times.
Making the appointment and attending the initial appointment may feel overwhelming, so it is important for clients to give themselves kindness and grace while they are working through this process.
Grief and loss counseling helps people grieve difficult losses including the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, or the end of a relationship. It helps people navigate their grief process and eventually accept, understand, and move forward from their loss. Thriveworks grief therapists in Champaign, IL have specific experience, training, and skills that enable them to best support grieving individuals.
Grief and loss counseling isn’t one-size-fits-all, but it involves sharing about your loss and then working with your counselor to acknowledge and accept your new reality in its wake. Your provider at Thriveworks in Champaign, IL will design your treatment plan around your unique needs and goals for therapy, applying the counseling techniques that best support them.
If you have recently experienced an event like the death of a loved one, a breakup or divorce, the loss of a job, or another major life change, then you may want to seek grief and loss counseling. Grief can be caused by many experiences and events, so if you feel that you are having trouble moving on from a certain event or find that it is still impacting your life and functioning, grief and loss counseling can help you process it more effectively so that you can move on and once again find fulfillment and satisfaction in your life.
There are many counseling theories for treating grief, one of the most frequently used being the dual process model of grief which helps people acknowledge who or what they’ve lost through rumination while also adjusting to the new roles and identities that this loss has now placed on them. There are also many commonly used therapy approaches used in grief and loss counseling, including Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and traumatic grief therapy.
Grief & loss counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
For many, grief and loss counseling lasts for about 6 months. For others, it may last shorter or longer, depending on the severity of their loss and their grief.
