Treatment With a Psychologist FAQs

What are psychologists?

Psychologists are mental health professionals that provide psychotherapy services and diagnoses for their clients. They have more research-focused training than most therapists, as they are more medically educated and receive a more general education about therapeutic approaches and theory.

How do psychologists work?

Thriveworks psychologists in Boise, ID provide standard psychotherapy services, tailoring treatment to each client and their unique concerns. However, they can also provide diagnoses to clients when appropriate, something that therapists and counselors cannot do. Finally, in some states in the U.S., they are allowed to prescribe medication.

How long would I see a psychologist?

Psychological treatment at Thriveworks Boise is very individualized and specific to each client, which means that the duration of treatment is often varied depending on a client’s condition or disorder, the state of their symptoms, and their specific goals.

What Will Therapy Look Like with a Psychologist?

Here at our Boise office, we believe mental health care should be client-focused and centered around putting your needs first. That’s why when you start working with one of our mental health professionals, you will be assessed for your specific challenges, conditions, and goals. Following this, your psychologist will create a treatment plan based on your unique situation. They will then work with the tools and techniques that will prove beneficial to you and your treatment plan.

The goal of working with a psychologist is to help you with things like…

  1. Your communication skills
  2. How to effectively problem-solve in all areas of your life
  3. Understanding the importance of active listening
  4. How to deal with stress at work, in your relationships, and even during everyday occurrences like traffic and bad weather
  5. Making decisions on significant life choices such as career changes, moving to a new area, or going back to school
