Keith Thomas is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 11 years of experience supporting children and their families. My go-to approach for helping people in teen counseling is cognitive behavioral therapy. I find the best benefit in a CBT approach because it helps identify problematic thought patterns and behavior and teaches tools to change them.
I teach the following tools in teen counseling: identifying harmful thought patterns, cognitive reframing, shifting negative thought patterns to positive thought patterns, self-compassion, communication skills, and mindfulness.
I know a client is making meaningful progress in teen counseling when they experience increased satisfaction in their peer and family relationships and have notably enhanced self-confidence, emotional regulation, and problem-solving skills.
