About
As one who has experienced my own traumas, losses and other "bumps in the road" life throws at us, I can identify with others in distress and try to align with them in finding their personal path to healing and empowerment.
My name is Jeff Miller, and I have been in the mental health field for over 30 years. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master's degree in Social Work. My experience is varied—beginning in Cuyahoga County investigating allegations of abuse and neglect with extensive Juvenile Court involvement, then expanding to children and teens in foster care, residential treatment, and adoption settings. I have also worked with adults managing chronic or acute mental health conditions and dual diagnoses. I am open to working with most concerns, though depression and anxiety—often rooted in trauma and loss—are what I most typically address.
Building a therapeutic relationship and aligning with clients to find their “path” to healing is at the heart of my work. I help normalize certain feelings, and approach each person without judgment. I am honest and respectful of what a client can manage at any point in the process. Trust is developed and earned over time, and I fully understand that.
I look forward to meeting you and will always start from where you are. Our journey together will hopefully bring new understandings and positive life changes.

Marriage counseling, also known as couples therapy and relationship counseling, helps couples work through their specific relationship issues. Thriveworks marriage counseling in , OH is led by licensed professionals — often licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) — who are experts in their field and best-equipped to help couples. Some examples of common focuses within Marriage counseling include:
Marriage counseling works by helping couples identify and better navigate their unique challenges. Following an initial assessment of the couple in terms of strengths and needs, the therapist would then discuss their therapeutic goals and any possible approaches or ways of working together as therapist and couple.Couples attend sessions together, whether they meet in person or by video. In addition to regular marriage counseling sessions, each partner may also be asked to attend a few individual sessions to supplement their progress. This will allow their counselor to get to know each individual better, assess each of their personal needs, and develop the very best treatment plan moving forward.
Marriage counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you and your partner.
On average, couples attend marriage counseling for 12 weeks. However, marriage counseling may last longer or shorter, dependent on the couples’ needs, the challenges they’d like to work through, and the pace of their progress. Marriage counselors and therapists at Thriveworks in , OH work with their clients to create goals, decide on ideal timelines, and establish treatment plans.
All couples, no matter how long they have been together, face highs and lows of their relationships. It is normal! It’s only when those highs and lows are back and forth too frequently or when the challenges they are facing get too tough to handle on their own does it become a serious problem. Take a moment to think about the health of your relationship and see if there are areas that could be improved through couples counseling.
You might be like Cary and Ryan. They have been together for almost five years and are ready to take the next step in their relationship but they both have looming feelings of, “what if this does not work out?” They struggle sometimes with communication and aren’t really sure of what the other person thinks about when it comes to finances, having children, where to live, and how to live. Or, you might be like Miranda and Kyle who have been married for over 15 years and are struggling to raise their adolescent child. One of them will do one thing and the other person will do another. It not only confuses their teen but allows their teen to manipulate them into getting things. They aren’t sure how to properly communicate in order to effectively parent and need some assistance.
If you and your partner are struggling to communicate, make certain decisions, or have a major challenge you are facing, you might benefit from working with a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT). At Thriveworks Ohio, our online marriage counselors and couples therapists have the training and set of skills to help you and your significant other tackle the obstacles and goals you have in a safe and comfortable environment. There is no “right” time to work with a therapist or counselor when life is throwing you curveballs and you feel like you do not have any extra free time. However, it might be beneficial if you and your spouse are frequently arguing, not speaking to each other, having a lack of intimacy, or are feeling disconnected. Here is a list of common reasons why couples choose to seek professional counseling:
If you don’t see your specific concern on the list, don’t worry! There are so many unique reasons why couples see out the help of a psychologist. From couples therapy, you and your partner can learn communication skills, how to listen to each other more effectively, tools to make decisions that meet all needs in the middle, and more. Don’t wait any longer. Get the help you and your partner need to start living a healthier and happier life.
Couples therapy and counseling is designed to help both partners not only grow together, but as individuals to better the bond of their relationship. In your beginning sessions, your couples therapist will assess both of your needs in order to come up with a unique plan of care to help you achieve your goals. Our counselors at Thriveworks Ohio Counseling will find out how the change or concern came on, what stage of your relationship it was in, and determine if your issues are chronic or not. They will then equip you with the tools and methods we mentioned earlier so you can tackle future concerns effectively.
When starting with online counseling, you can choose between phone or video chat. Both options are great and provide our clients with a multitude of benefits. Some of those benefits are:
Just know that if you choose to work with an online couples counselor at Thriveworks Ohio, you will be getting the dedicated care you have been looking for and need. Research shows that teletherapy is just as effective as in-person counseling so there is no need to worry if you and your partner will make meaningful progress virtually.
