Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I come from a family made of both nuclear and chosen family, and intimately understand the value of having a strong support network. I thrive on helping clients find this for themselves, no matter what that looks like. I also understand that there are many roads to healing, and enjoy helping people create their own pathways.
What types of clients do you work with best?
While I am happy to work with just about any client, I work best with clients who have a goal in mind, even if it feels simple or basic. The clients that make progress in my office are open to change, and comfortable collaborating with the therapeutic process.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients who are curious about their whole self; the systems they are a part of, their physical health as well as mental health, and their relationships. I deeply enjoy helping clients unpack all of the things that impact their well-being, not just a diagnosis or a label.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
The flowers growing in the cracks of the sidewalk are not ugly, broken, or in need of fixing. Neither are you!
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks allows me to be the best clinician I can be for my clients.
What inspires you?
I'm inspired by my clients, who choose to show up and work on themselves. I am also inspired by my mom who finished her bachelor's just before her 65th birthday. It's never too late!
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In our first session, you can expect to focus on your goals for counseling, past experiences in therapy, and what works best for you as an individual. I want you to know that you are the expert in your own life, and feel that you are capable. I work to create an open, welcoming, and judgement free space. I'm excited to meet new clients, and want them to feel like a partner in treatment.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to be able to identify primary supports, what is bringing clients to therapy, and what their primary concerns are. I also want clients to walk away with at least one thing to try, whether that's self care, mindful movement, or something they've chosen for themselves.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I am not the most structured therapist; I have often said "Clients steer the boat, I hold the map". That said, I am a sex positive, judgement free therapis trained in harm reduction and crisis work. We can work towards change as slowly or as quickly as the client needs.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I feel strongly about my personal values, and want every person to be able to live a vibrant, healthy life. I feel deeply connected to my community, both in central Ohio and at large.
