What is your go-to approach for online therapy?

Look inward honestly. Accept direct and honest feedback because by looking at ourselves with an honest eye, we can then have full awareness and acceptance of who we are and learn and work toward WHO we can become.

What tools do you teach in online therapy?

I teach the following: self-reflection, tracking backward for triggers, interrupting negative thoughts, self-care, finding positives to replace negative thoughts, grounding, and relaxation.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy?

I know a client has made meaningful progress when they tell me a time they had a negative thought or emotion and were able to use the tools we have discussed to regulate their emotions, look at all sides of the issue, and find a resolution.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement online therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in online therapy by taking some time after our sessions to reflect on what was discussed, jot down notes or reminders of assignments, and also practice the skills discussed — whether or not they work effectively each time, just keep practicing! The most important thing I want clients to do is “be gentle with themselves.”

What should someone do to prepare for starting online therapy?

Be sure you have an adequate internet connection; the use of cell phones is okay but not always adequate — nothing worse than video or audio freezing during a session. If you are zooming in while in your car, make sure you are NOT driving and be sure you are physically in the state your therapist is licensed in; we can’t provide services across state lines unless we are licensed in that state. If you’re using your phone or laptop, make sure your battery is sufficiently charged.

Starting Online therapy

What is online therapy?

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.

What is the best option for online therapy?

There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it's best to focus on finding a provider that meets your speicifc needs and with wom you can form a professional connection with.

Is online therapy just as effective?

Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.

How long does online therapy last?

Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.

How much does online therapy cost?

Our Thriveworks therapists at Thriveworks in Midland, TX accept most major forms of insurance, which means that many of our clients only pay $0-$50 co-pay per session. However, there are also self-pay options that sit around $200 per session, depending on the service and location, for those who are out-of-network.

Need more help deciding?

There are many reasons people don’t receive the mental health resources they need. Maybe you think you don’t have the time, there isn’t a counselor nearby, or you’re nervous about talking to a therapist or counselor. Thankfully, there’s an option that can solve these kinds of problems: online counseling.

Online therapy or counseling is very similar to in-person therapy; the biggest difference is that your sessions will take place over phone calls or video chats rather than in an office environment. You’ll work with a licensed mental health professional to help you deal with your mental health issues and learn new ways to manage your symptoms.

Experiencing mental distress can be scary. No matter what you’re going through, know that support is available. Online therapy could be the step that puts you on the path to a sense of mental ease. Call us today to set up an appointment with a mental health professional from Thriveworks Counseling in Midland, TX.

Online Therapy –– What Are My Options?

Most therapy is talk-based so it translates well to an online environment. You can receive many types of therapeutic treatment online, including:

  • Depression therapy
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Child and adolescent therapy
  • Anxiety therapy
  • Anger management
  • Phobia counseling and exposure therapy
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) counseling
  • Family therapy
  • Couples counseling
  • Marriage counseling
  • Eating disorder therapy

Online therapy or counseling is very similar to traditional therapy. You’ll connect with your provider on a video session or phone call and they’ll get to know you and your goals before developing an individualized treatment plan. Your licensed counselor or therapist will work with you over the course of future sessions to help you find ways to manage your mental health issue.

Online therapy is a great option for anyone who wants to start speaking with a mental health professional. Consider reaching out to a counselor or therapist from Thriveworks Counseling in Midland, TX today.

Why Choose Online Therapy or Counseling?

Online therapy or counseling appointments are great because they remove a lot of the barriers involved with traditional, face-to-face therapeutic options. They’re very accessible and easy to schedule.

Here are some situations where people can benefit from online therapy options:

  • Thomas has felt more anxious lately. Some level of anxiety is normal in response to stressful situations, so he’s not sure if he’s living with an anxiety disorder. Online therapy lets Thomas speak to a provider without having to commit to an in-person session.
  • Julia wants to talk to a professional about her depression for the first time but she’s nervous. She’s worried that she won’t be able to open up to a counselor if they meet in person. Working with a provider over the phone helps her open up during her sessions and discuss her issues more readily.
  • Derek and Brielle want to work with a relationship counselor to learn new communication skills but they both have demanding jobs. Online counseling is a good option that can accommodate their busy schedules.

If you decide to schedule an online therapy or counseling session, you’ll have the option of speaking with your provider over the phone or through a video call. If you choose to work with a provider over the phone, you’ll receive a call at your appointment time. If you want to speak with your provider over a video chat, you’ll receive a link prior to your session. To join, simply click the link once it’s time for your session to start. It’s that simple.
