What is your go-to approach for PTSD/trauma therapy?

My go-to approach for helping people in PTSD/trauma therapy is cognitive behavioral therapy because it teaches clients to identify negative thought patterns. CBT also teaches about neutralizing difficult thoughts and employs restructuring and reframing techniques with the goal of creating non-damaging thoughts.

What tools do you teach in PTSD/trauma therapy?

I teach the following tools in PTSD/trauma therapy: identifying negative thought patterns, reframing and restructuring, mindfulness, calming techniques, self-esteem and self-confidence building skills, and exploring art and/or music therapy outside of sessions.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in PTSD/trauma therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in PTSD/trauma therapy when their negative thoughts are neutralized and they begin to experience elevated mood and contentment.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement PTSD/trauma therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in PTSD/trauma therapy by utilizing the tools learned in therapy while they are in between therapy sessions.

What should someone do to prepare for starting PTSD/trauma therapy?

To prepare for their first PTSD/trauma therapy session, someone may choose to start identifying when negative thoughts occur. They may also choose to begin to identify activities that help them feel better.
