What is your go-to approach for online therapy?

My go-to approach for online therapy is to initially give the client some room to talk about goals and then take time to work on other goals. Listening is an important aspect, as you listen and see in online therapy.

Although newer to the counseling world, online therapy can be helpful to you and your therapy journey. Online therapy is convenient to your schedule and allows you to expand to counselors all around the state you live in. My go-to approach doesn't change from traditional in-person counseling. You can still expect me to make strong efforts to build our connection and implement thoughtful interventions to help you with what you're dealing with.

What tools do you teach in online therapy?

Various methods including [CBT] to assist client in identifying the precipitant to their difficulties . Client will be provided symptom management and coping strategies to assist client them in managing their symptoms. Coping strategies will provide helpful ways of managing symptoms.

I teach the following tools in online therapy: psychoeducation through videos and other resources, talk therapy to investigate the sources of your struggles and to help you connect different parts, and at times even creative interventions to express yourself!

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy when clients are able to decrease their symptoms with the use of coping strategies. Online therapy is a truly effective forum where much clinical work can be accomplished.

I know a client is making meaningful progress when they self-report relief from symptoms. It is just the same as in-person therapy. Let's talk and review goals, as well as make a plan to address other areas of your life.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement online therapy?

To prepare for their first online therapy session, clients can write any questions down to talk about during the first session. Clients can also talk with friends who are in therapy and ask questions about their experiences.

Clients can supplement their time in online therapy by completing the tasks taught in therapy in their day-to-day lives. Practice does help with the mastery of skills, and will allow you to make the progress you're looking for.

What should someone do to prepare for starting online therapy?

To prepare for your first online therapy session find a safe, private place for your therapy appointment. Have your questions with you.

Please review and sign the consent form and formulate questions as well as your therapeutic goals for our first session together. This will help the process, and will allow us to dive right in!

Starting Online therapy

What is online therapy?

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.

What is the best option for online therapy?

There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your specific needs and with whom you can form a professional connection with.

Is online therapy just as effective?

Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.

How long does online therapy last?

Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.

How much does online therapy cost?

Our Thriveworks therapists at Thriveworks in Leominster, MA accept most major forms of insurance, which means that many of our clients only pay $0-$50 co-pay per session. However, there are also self-pay options that sit around $200 per session, depending on the service and location, for those who are out-of-network.

  • Phone online therapy: You can choose to work with your online therapist or counselor over the phone. All you have to do is make sure you have service or Wi-Fi to conduct your call and then answer your therapist’s call!
  • Video online therapy: This is similar to phone online therapy; you choose a day and time to work with your therapist and then meet them in the video chat or answer their video call! Of course, you have to ensure that you have Wi-Fi for this one too.
  • Email online therapy: Your third option is to work with your online therapist via online email or chat. This option is different from the former two, as you don’t chat with your therapist for a strict 60 or 90 minutes. Instead, you take turns responding over a flexible period of time.

I was in great need of an in-person therapist. I've grown tired of being stuck in the zoom room for years now, like many people. Thankfully, I was able to schedule an appointment and get started at the local Thriveworks office. And I'm grateful for my therapist. I feel like I'm making great strides forward in a fraction of the time it took me to make similar progress with online therapy/counseling. Setting matters.
