What is your go-to approach for online therapy?

My go-to approach for helping people in online therapy is being engaged in the conversation and utilizing the tools of Zoom to keep the session engaging.

What tools do you teach in online therapy?

I teach the same tools I would teach with in-person therapy sessions. In some cases, it is more beneficial to have online therapy because the resources are right there on the screen for everyone to see.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy when we run out of things to talk about and/or sessions are canceled more often because they feel they don't need them.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement online therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in online therapy with hobbies that bring them joy, outdoor activities in order to be physically active and get that fresh air, mindfulness activities, and creative tasks to utilize their artistic brain.

What should someone do to prepare for starting online therapy?

To prepare for your first online therapy session, you can double check and test the link, find a private space to speak freely, and plug in that laptop/phone!

Starting Online therapy

What is online therapy?

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.

What is the best option for online therapy?

There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your speicifc needs and with wom you can form a professional connection with.

Is online therapy just as effective?

Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.

How long does online therapy last?

Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.

How much does online therapy cost?

Our Thriveworks therapists at Thriveworks in Fort Worth, TX accept most major forms of insurance, which means that many of our clients only pay $0-$50 co-pay per session. However, there are also self-pay options that sit around $200 per session, depending on the service and location, for those who are out-of-network.

Need more help deciding?

Have you ever had a bad day that turned into a bad week or a bad month? Sometimes, we can work through the challenges that we run into, but sometimes they grow into larger, harder-to-manage problems and we need help.

There is no shame in needing or receiving help. If you are feeling depressed, anxious, stressed, or struggling in any other way, it’s important that you talk to a mental health professional. These health care providers can provide you with the right help and support to get better.

Thriveworks Counseling in Fort Worth, TX has counselors, therapists, and psychologists on our team who can help you online. You can work with one of our online therapists now over the phone or video. Just call our office when you are ready to schedule an appointment.

Online Counseling vs. Face-to-Face Counseling

Online counseling and face-to-face counseling are both viable options for mental health help. In fact, they are relatively similar, despite the fact that with the former, you talk to a counselor via virtual means instead of in-person. This is the one major difference.

Let’s take a look at virtual methods of communication, as well as other important facets of online counseling:

  1. Virtual methods of communication: Online counseling requires you to meet with your counselor virtually instead of face-to-face in your counselor’s office. Telehealth sessions can be conducted over the phone or video chat, depending on the individual’s preferences for care. It is important to note that counseling via video chat is the closest option to working with a counselor in-person.
  2. Convenient care: Online therapy is more convenient (for most people) than traditional in-person care. Rather than having to drive to a counseling center for each appointment, the individual can simply attend their session in a video session or phone session. This is beneficial to those who would prefer to attend their session from home and also helpful to those who struggle to attend in-person sessions. For example, disabilities and lack of transportation can present one from going to traditional therapy.
  3. Security and privacy: A major concern for people considering online counseling is, “Is it safe and secure?” The answer is yes. Online counseling is covered by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). At Thriveworks, our platforms are HIPAA-compliant, which means your conversations with your therapist are safe and private.
  4. Cost: Another common concern is, “Is online counseling affordable?” Again, the answer is yes. Most major insurance companies now cover online counseling services. If you are wondering whether your plan covers online therapy sessions, our Thriveworks team in Fort Worth, TX is happy to help you find out for sure.

If you are looking for a convenient way to meet with a counselor, online therapy is a great option. If you’d like to schedule online counseling services or hear more about how online counseling works, reach out to Thriveworks. We’re here to help and answer any questions you may have.

I love my Dr Odu-Onikosi. But I have had several very bad experiences with the appt makers and supervisors over the appt making ( if there are any supervisors ....as no one has ever called me back ) The mis information they provide is gross and straight up not correct. You are probably losing patients over this as if I didn't like my Dr so much this second instance would have made me stop using Thrive for my needs all together.
