Starting Trauma therapy

What is Trauma therapy?

Trauma therapy is a therapeutic approach that focuses on treating the psychological impact of traumatic events on individuals. Trauma therapy helps people process and heal from their trauma by guiding them through their trauma in a compassionate and supportive way, allowing clients to feel the full scope of what happened to them and eventually move on from the event(s). This process helps people who have experienced trauma find ways to feel safe in their life.

How does Trauma therapy work?

Trauma therapy will often require individuals to walk through their experiences in a controlled and compassionate setting (unless the client has a dissociative disorder) so that they can fully process the event, an activity that will allow them to move on from what happened and feel safe again. Thriveworks Cherry Hill therapists will also help clients learn healthy coping mechanisms to deal with their symptoms outside of therapy.

Is Trauma therapy conducted in person or online?

Thriveworks trauma counseling in Cherry Hill, NJ is conducted both in person and online through online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How long does Trauma therapy last?

If an individual is working through a single event that occurred during adulthood, they may only need a few months of treatment. However, in instances of childhood trauma or repeated traumatic events, therapy may continue over the course of years. Trauma therapy usually ends when the client believes they have met their therapeutic goals, however long that takes to occur. Thriveworks therapists in Cherry Hill, NJ will continue to provide care for as long as necessary to help clients meet their therapeutic needs.

“Anything that’s human is mentionable and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we know we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone”
– Fred Rogers

Diagnosis for a type of trauma experienced calls for therapy for extreme times. We offer intelligent trauma therapists for either short or long-term counseling. These specialists are educated and experienced to work with individuals who have suffered some extreme, shattering events in their lives. If you feel you are one of those individuals you have come to the right place. At Thriveworks Cherry Hill Counseling we are here for you!

Trauma can cause severe reactions that have a major impact on a person’s life, making it difficult to function at times. Depending on the severity of the trauma, it can cause after effects known as post-traumatic stress (PTS) causing symptoms such as:

  • Anxiety attacks
  • Panic attacks
  • Violence
  • Anger
  • Severe depression
  • Aggressiveness

  • Social withdrawal
  • Feelings of hopelessness
  • Self-blame and guilt

Physical symptoms:

Short term therapy is when an individual experienced a traumatic event and is having difficulty moving forward from it. This therapeutic process acts as a effective emergency treatment and is designed to help a client to cope with the after effects triggered by a certain event. Some ground work will help the suffering individual move towards a plan of healing to move past the effects and undesired pain caused by a certain experience.

Long-term counseling is intended for individuals that have suffered from extreme experiences repeatedly or long periods of time. This is where our Thriveworks professionals step in and counsel individuals that are struggling to manage their intense, traumatic emotions. This process is used help the client to rebuild secure life and recover from undesired effects of trauma.

Child treatment differs from adult treatment and the severity is also a deciding factor for effectiveness of the treatment process. Psychotherapy is commonly used to treat trauma disorders. The patient is taught ways to cope and prevent stressful situations. The type of psychotherapy that is offered is individual or group therapy. We also offer the following;

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): enables individuals to heal from the effects and emotional distress that is disrupting everyday life.
  • Somatic Experiencing: teaches that trauma is not caused by the event itself, rather it develops based on how the body and the nervous system perceives the circumstance.
  • Equine Assisted Therapy: teaches how to navigate through interpersonal relationships and build trust, communication, boundary setting and mindfulness of feelings and emotions.

I initially had a fantastic experience with Thriveworks, and I was thrilled with the service they provided. My journey to find the right therapist was successful, and I happily recommended Thriveworks to friends and family. However, my positive experience took a turn when I discovered that the therapist I connected with does not accept my insurance. Embarking on the path to seek help required a lot of courage on my part, and I fully committed to the process. In just 4 or 5 sessions, I developed a strong connection with my therapist. Unfortunately, the realization that she could no longer continue due to insurance constraints has left me feeling disappointed. Now, I find myself having to start the therapeutic journey all over again, and this has diminished my overall satisfaction with the service.

Sherodle is a fantastic counselor. I’ve learned so much that I use to make my life better. She is easy to speak with, very personable. Not sure about your rating system. I put 5 assuming that is best.
