Therapists and Counselors in Birmingham – Mental Health Services
Counseling. Therapy. Marriage Counseling. Child therapy. Just hearing these words may provoke many varied images and thoughts in our heads, some good and some bad.
There is no reason to feel anxiety when considering these options, but we understand why that could be the case. While some people seek a qualified and experienced counselor or coach as more of a routine preventative measure or for an objective perspective on how they could better achieve their goals, many people look to counseling only after the suffering becomes more than unbearable.
Being in such a difficult place and then having to go through the potentially frustrating process of calling various offices, leaving voicemails and waiting for a return call to see if they have any available appointments (or even accept your insurance) makes matters much worse.
This process should not be frustrating, that’s why at Thriveworks Birmingham Counseling, we make it a priority to get you into your first session as soon as possible. More often than not, our first-time clients meet their coach or therapist within 24 hours of speaking with our friendly scheduling specialists.
Call 248-686-3347 to schedule a first appointment with Thriveworks Birmingham Counseling — we’ll answer no matter what time you call.
We understand that making the decision to pursue counseling can cause anxiety and fear. While making this call can be very difficult, it can also be one of the best and most proactive steps you can take for yourself, your loved one(s) or your relationship.
You’re invited to thrive!”
We believe that you, just like everyone else, have the potential to thrive in life.
Perhaps you’re going through a scenario similar to one of the following:
- A close friend or family member has died and the grief is affecting your relationships and career
- Missed opportunities and past mistakes occupy your mind, making it difficult to accomplish day-to-day tasks and move forward
- You and your family have recently relocated to a new city and your once happy-go-lucky child is having a hard time adjusting to changing schools
- You’re wanting to get married and the officiate has required you to get premarital (or pre-engagement) counseling
- You feel like you’re living the same day over and over, and want your life to move in a new direction
- Your spouse has been unfaithful and you’re not sure what to do — you love your partner but don’t know if you could ever learn to trust him or her ever again
Big or small, we all experience hardships at various times and to various degrees. The most important thing, however, is that we acknowledge that there are professionals who have helped others in similar situations and can do the same for you.
Millions of people have already learned how an experienced and licensed counselor or coach can help you learn how to:
- Set goals and take steps toward reaching them
- Process challenging relationships and life issues
- Pursue and achieve personal growth
There are many reasons that individuals and families choose to seek therapy and counseling. Some of these are very serious and complicated, and some are simply dealing with life transitions and changes. People of all ages can benefit from counseling, from the very young to the very mature. It may not be an easy decision, but it is a very important and meaningful decision.
Our mental health is no different than our physical health. It is important to maintain our mental balance and equilibrium in order to function at our fullest in other areas of life. Just like we need to eat well, sleep plenty and exercise often to maintain our physical wellness, our psychological wellbeing also requires attention.
Recognizing that we may benefit from speaking with a professional is the first step in healing and growing, mentally and relationally.
Reasons to pursue counseling may include:
- Anxiety issues
- Couples counseling
- Eating disorders
- Obsessive-compulsive tendencies
- Grief counseling
- Problems with a child
- Anger management
- Addiction issues
- Life coaching
- Life transitions such as divorce or loss of a job
The issue or problem that has caused you to seek out information on counseling may have appeared immediately on this list. Or perhaps you did not see the issue that you are dealing with and feel discouraged. There is no need to feel this way. The problems we deal with on a daily basis may be so complicated, unique, and personal, it is difficult to sum them up into a bullet point or a few words. Every human is unique, as are their problems.

No Waiting Lists: Sessions within 24 Hours
Some counselors think that having a waiting list is a sign of professional success. We see it as a sign of a poorly managed practice.
At Thriveworks, we believe it’s important for you to see a counselor or coach as soon is possible, which is why we operate on a strict “no waiting list” policy, which means that we will work to get you an appointment as soon as possible, often with 24 hours of speaking with you.
