What is your go-to approach for online therapy?

My go-to approach for helping people in online therapy is cognitive behavioral therapy. This approach not only helps clients to understand the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and actions, but also provides clients with strategies to make the changes they want to make to overcome life’s problems and challenges. I also work with clients to develop tools and strategies such as mindfulness activities, breathing techniques, and communication skills. Lastly, I also incorporate motivational interviewing into my therapy practice, as this can help clients who feel stuck to take steps toward their goals and see progress.

What tools do you teach in online therapy?

Some of the tools that I teach in online therapy are mindfulness techniques, breathing strategies, stress management, and communication skills. I usually find that clients can learn these as effectively online as they would if they were meeting with me in person.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy?

I know that clients are making meaningful progress in online therapy when they start to see the positive changes they want in their lives.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement online therapy?

Clients can supplement their time by practicing the tools and strategies they have learned in sessions. This practice often helps in making faster progress in resolving issues and working toward their goals.

What should someone do to prepare for starting online therapy?

To prepare for your first therapy session, you can think about how you would like yourself and your life to be different as a result of therapy. Knowing some of your goals can help to jump-start the therapy process.

Starting Online therapy

What is online therapy?

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.

What is the best option for online therapy?

There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your specific needs and with whom you can form a professional connection with.

Is online therapy just as effective?

Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.

How long does online therapy last?

Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.

How much does online therapy cost?

Our Thriveworks therapists at Thriveworks in Worcester, MA accept most major forms of insurance, which means that many of our clients only pay $0-$50 co-pay per session. However, there are also self-pay options that sit around $200 per session, depending on the service and location, for those who are out-of-network.

Need more help deciding?

Drew has been struggling for quite some time, but he can’t bring himself to schedule an appointment at the local counseling office. He can’t bear the thought of walking into the office and being spotted by someone he knows. Drew isn’t ashamed of his mental health struggles, but he wants to keep his struggles to himself for now. He isn’t ready to talk about how he’s feeling with his loved ones… he is, however, ready to open up to a counselor. If only he could find a solution to this one problem standing in his way.

Online counseling is the solution to Drew’s problem. This mental health service allows people to work with counselors and therapists from the safety, comfort, and convenience of home. In Drew’s case, he can hop on a phone call or video conference to meet with his counselor, instead of risk being seen by someone on the street when walking into a counseling office.

“Asking for help is the first step… You are more precious to this world than you’ll ever know.” –Lili Rhinehart

Online counseling offers solutions to many obstacles that prevent people from pursuing or receiving mental health counseling. If you think that online counseling might be the solution you’ve been looking for, or you’re simply interested in exploring this convenient counseling option, consider reaching out to Thriveworks Worcester, MA. We have virtual counselors and therapists on our Thriveworks Worcester team who are happy to help you via online means. Not to mention, these professionals have experience working with counseling over the phone or video. You’re in good hands. To schedule an online counseling appointment at Thriveworks Worcester, call our office. We’ll get you set up ASAP.

How Does Online Counseling Work? What Should I Know?

Online counseling has come a long way since its inception. The beginning of online counseling can be traced back to 1972, in which staff members at Stanford and UCLA simulated a psychotherapy session on their computers. Today, online counseling is offered in the form of video counseling, telephone counseling, and even email or chat counseling.

Here at Thriveworks Worcester Counseling, we offer both video counseling and telephone counseling. Here’s a little more info on each option:

  1. Video counseling: Video counseling is simply working with your counselor in a video chat room instead of in-person. If you decide to schedule a video counseling session at Thriveworks Worcester Counseling, you’ll be sent a secure video link to click and join at the time of your appointment.
  2. Telephone counseling: Telephone counseling, on the other hand, is working with your counselor over the phone instead of in-person. If you decide to schedule a telephone counseling session at Thriveworks Worcester Counseling, your counselor will call you at the agreed upon appointment time.

In both cases, you simply need to make sure you have reliable internet and access to a computer, telephone, or another device that allows you to make a phone call or attend a videoconference.

How Is Online Counseling Beneficial?

Online counseling is lucrative because it comes with many benefits that in-person counseling does not. For example, online counseling offers:

  • Greater flexibility
  • Comfort
  • Convenience
  • Reliability

To expand on the above, online counseling often means a greater assortment of scheduling options including appointments in the evenings and on weekends. In addition, online counseling clients often find that online counseling is more comfortable (both physically and mentally) than in-person counseling. Also, it offers greater convenience as well as reliability. One doesn’t have to stress about a long commute time, traffic, or other uncontrollable factors that might make one late to their appointment or despise going to their appointment.

Online counseling is the comfortable, convenient counseling option. If it sounds like something you’re interested in exploring, you’ve come to the right place!

Schedule Online Counseling at Thriveworks Worcester Counseling

If you’re interested in the convenience, the comfort, and additional benefits you can find in online counseling, reach out to Thriveworks Worcester Counseling when you’re ready. We have counselors on staff who are experienced in helping their clients overcome challenges and improve their lives via telephone counseling or video counseling.

To schedule an online counseling session, all you have to do is give us a call. Our scheduling specialists will pair you with a counselor, therapist, or psychologist who has the skills, training, and experience that aligns with your needs. Then, they’ll get you all set up for your first telephone counseling or video counseling session. It’s that easy.

I have been very happy with the counseling I have received. Jason is a down to earth person. I like him on a personal and professional level. He is a good listener and understands my challenges. He has offered techniques to help me identify my anxieties before they have a chance to affect my behavior. He has introduced me to Cognitive Behavioral therapy as one of the tools I may find useful to effect change. I have made improvements in my behavior as a result of Jason's counseling.

I have the privilege of working with Jamie (Coonan) Bruce for the past 4 months+ and have gained a sense of peace and equilibrium by doing so. Jamie has guided me to create a thriving daily practice of serenity and peace even in my own fragmented chaotic times along with the insane chaotic times in the world presently. I feel my relationship with her has led me to an understanding of my past trauma that is beneficial in my growth and connection with family and others. As we resolve past issues, it is gently ushering in a new skill set. I am better able to manage the fluctuating moods and emotions enhancing my coping skills. Jamie's experience with PTSD for so many years is a blessing for me as I live with hypervigilance day in and day out. I have been able to better manage my anxiety and I am learning how to manage my pent up anger making fluid, acceptable and letting it go. I feel blessed that I found Jamie to work with and am grateful for her teaching, listening and presence.

I have been seeing Jeffrey White for four months now, to deal with longstanding issues related to a traumatic childhood. He has taught me so much about how trauma affects the body and mind and how to change that. That education, along with his compassion and encouragement have helped me get to a place of calm and confidence that would have seemed impossible to me before starting therapy. I'm so grateful for his help - it's been transformational for me.

I have been a client of Jeffrey White from Thriveworks for a few months now. We meet weekly and after each session I feel educated and heard. His ability to hold space for me is recognized and appreciated ten fold. Our sessions involve a combination of therapy and coaching, and I couldn't ask for someone better to just listen to me and provide objective feedback. If you are looking for an educated, thoughtful, and inspirational therapist, Jeff White is your person.
