There are times when we fall out of line with our faith. We’re only human—we encounter challenges, like a disagreement with our partner that threatens to derail our relationship, or financial stress that doesn’t appear to have a solution. These challenges are varied and aplenty. Fortunately, Christian counselors understand this fact about life well! More importantly, they know how to help you work through the challenges in front of you, while also guiding you back to your faith. In assisting you with life’s obstacles, they will help you to strengthen your relationship with God.
When we learn to read the story of Jesus and see it as the story of the love of God, doing for us what we could not do for ourselves—that insight produces, again and again, a sense of astonished gratitude which is very near the heart of authentic Christian experience. –N.T. Wright
If you think that you could use a little help in working through stressors, relationship issues, or other life challenges, and you prefer the assistance of someone who shares in your Christian faith, consider working with a Christian counselor. The Christian counselors at Thriveworks Reston in Fairfax are here and hopeful to meet you! They will use their Christian faith, paired with their professional skills and knowledge, to help you work through the challenges that are stunting your happiness and/or relationship with God. To schedule your first session with one of our Christian counselors, just call (703) 635-3514.
Who Might Benefit from Working with a Christian Counselor?
Christian counseling, otherwise known as biblical counseling or therapy, uses both lessons from the Christian faith and science-backed therapeutic practices to help people heal, grow, and live better. The ultimate goal of Christian counseling is to guide people in making beneficial changes that will help them live a happier, more successful life as God’s child. This approach to counseling utilizes lessons narrated in the bible as well as scripture, to complement and enhance psychological treatment.
When met with overwhelming, stressful, painful, or otherwise difficult scenarios, we can find help and healing in our Christian faith. Multiple studies show that leaning on one’s faith during tough times can help them to stay strong and maintain their wellbeing. For example, when we experience a heartbreaking loss, such as the death of a loved one; or, when we feel burnt out at our job. This list could go on, but the takeaway is this: Christian counseling can help guide followers of the Christian faith, as they work through their life challenges.
Don’t forget that whatever it is you’re dealing with or going through, Thriveworks Reston Counseling is here. We want to take some of that load off. Our Christian counselors will serve as that helping hand.
Christian Counseling Goals: How Can It Help Me?
As we stated previously, the primary goal in Christian counseling is to assist people with tackling challenges in their life and making beneficial changes that will improve their health, happiness, and/or success. Now, the more specific goals do vary from person to person, as they depend on what you are going through right now and which areas of your life you need help in. That said, here are some common goals that our Christian counselors have helped their clients achieve:
- Resolve problems in your relationships.
- Manage and cope with mental illness.
- Properly grieve the loss of a friend or family member.
- Better manage stressors.
- Identify and change unhealthy habits.
Again, these are just several common goals that our providers have seen in Christian counseling. There are many other goals that you might have for yourself in counseling, and we’ll be happy to help you accomplish them, whatever they may be!
