Starting Psychologists

What is Psychologists?

Psychologists are mental health professionals that provide psychotherapy services and diagnoses for their clients. They have more research-focused training than most therapists, as they are more medically educated and receive a more general education about therapeutic approaches and theory.

How does Psychologists work?

Thriveworks psychologists in Nottingham, MD provide standard psychotherapy services, tailoring treatment to each client and their unique concerns. However, they can also provide diagnoses to clients when appropriate, something that therapists and counselors cannot do. Finally, in some states in the U.S., they are allowed to prescribe medication.

Is Psychologists conducted in person or online?

How long does Psychologists last?

Need more help deciding?

Imagine: To everyone else, you seem perfectly fine. Great family, amazing partner, and dream job. You own your own home, drive a new car, and just adopted a dog. However, what they don’t see is all of the stress, pain, and anxiety you have. Behind closed doors, you argue a lot with your family, you and your partner are having relationship issues, and the stress at your job is causing you to develop anxiety. You feel pressured to maintain a smiling face and bubbly personality because you don’t want anyone to think that you’re a “fraud.” In reality, you just want someone to ask how you’re really doing.

When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.” – Henry Ford

It’s almost impossible to go through life without encountering issues along the way. No one is perfect and there isn’t pressure for you to be either. When you hold yourself to the highest standard, it becomes easier for you to be disappointed even when one little thing is off. Whether you feel like the pressure from home and work is becoming too much to handle or you’re going through a particularly challenging time, there is help available to you.

At Thriveworks Counseling in Nottingham, MD, we have a team of licensed psychologists who have the education, tools, and experience to help their clients work through many different problems relating to their mental health. Their goal is to help you live a happier, healthier, more successful life. Psychologists can show you how to focus on the positives and process difficult emotions along the way. If you are going through something and you feel like you could benefit from speaking with a mental health professional, reach out today by calling (410) 698-4142.

Should I Work with a Psychologist?

From the situation above, you have probably gathered that psychologists prove to be beneficial to many different people for many different reasons. Because there are so many ways in which a psychologist can benefit you, here is a more comprehensive list of common issues addressed in therapy:

  • Mental illnesses, such as anxiety, depression, addiction, and ADHD
  • Breakups and divorce

  • Grief and loss

What Can I Expect from Working with a Psychologist?

When you begin working with a psychologist, they’ll sit down with you and assess what your current situation is. They’ll talk to you about your wants, needs, and goals in therapy. With this new information, they’ll create a treatment plan that is unique and catered to you. Your treatment plan will involve making meaningful changes in your mental health and helping you learn new tools and skills to move forward. Some of the things you can work on with a psychologist include:

  1. Better communication skills
  2. Problem-solving techniques
  3. Coping mechanisms
  4. How to identify and recognize stressors
  5. Management techniques

And more! To achieve these goals, your psychologist will use a variety of different methods including traditional talk therapy, art therapy, narrative therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy, amongst others. In certain cases, someone could best benefit from a combination of therapy and medication. If medication is the right treatment option for you, your psychologist will work closely with your primary care doctor or psychiatrist to ensure the correct medication and dosage is prescribed.

I tried to call billing; I missed an evening telehealth appointment because of a widespread power outage from the massive storms of 1/9/2024. Offshore personnel had no idea what I was talking about; they said they were in the Phillippines, and in addition the language barrier was quite severe. Health professionals here are wonderful to work with; however, technical or financial issues are difficult to straighten out. I gave up and will just deal with the treating persons here.
