Dena Wampler, PMHNP

Philosophy of Care

Dena graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing with a Masters of Science in Nursing. She is proud to be an alumna of one of the top rated Universities for the psychiatric nurse practitioner specialty and she cannot imagine working in any other field. She carries multiple state licenses. Over the years, she has worked with a wide variety of patients at different levels of acuity and treatment. She enjoys getting to know people, building trusting relationships and meeting people where they are comfortable with different treatment options.

Dena has worked in high volume clinics with patients who have insurance and those who have no insurance. She is used to finding medication options that are indicated and affordable. She has worked in telehealth for the last four years and enjoys connecting and building meaningful relationships with people via this medium.

It can be daunting to ask for help and talk about things that may be uncomfortable and Dena works to make this as easy a possible with no judgment or bias. Improvement in mental health requires a trusting partnership between the provider and patient. Medication is a great tool and is deemed necessary for some patients, but understandably it can be a big decision. Reasoning, side effects and benefits of all medication indicated will be discussed thoroughly.

Krystle Landes, LPC

Philosophy of Care

Krystle Landes is a licensed professional counselor in the states of Virginia and Texas. Throughout her life, Krystle has been drawn to the helping professions, and through her own personal therapy journey she discovered her passion for providing that level of support to others.  Since then, she has provided services for young children, adolescents and adults with some areas of focus regarding shifting behavioral issues, supporting emotional regulation, providing crisis stabilization, and healing relational rupture. Her most recent work was grounded in an evidence-based program that supported children and families who were at risk for being placed outside of their homes due to the risky behaviors. During Krystle’s time in this program, she supported her clients using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, and Strategic Family Therapy.

Krystle strives to provide a safe and secure space to allow her clients to process growth and transformation. The therapy journey is unique to each individual and even though she grounds her work in theory, she recognizes that there is no cookie cutter approach to facilitating change.  Krystle tailors her approach to each client in the context of their unique circumstances and goals.

Lance Crawford, LPC

Philosophy of Care

My name is Lance Crawford and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Virginia. I have been in the mental health field since 2013 and have worked with a wide variety of populations including: young adults, at-risk youth, LGBTQ, substance abuse, and community mental health. I have a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Counseling from Eastern Mennonite University. My calling to this field has afforded me the opportunity to sit with individuals who have a range of mental health concerns and assist them in navigating through “the storm” to land at a place of calm and stability. In my experiences working with clients, I have found that we, as humans, are all capable and deserving of having a life fulfilled with meaning and purpose.

My approach to counseling is organic, meaning that the goal is for trust and the therapeutic relationship to develop naturally. I believe that counseling is a powerful experience that provides individuals with the opportunity to access vulnerable emotions and to do that effectively, a positive rapport must be established. The therapeutic lens in which I work derives from both Motivational Interviewing and Attachment Theory. I find that exploring our attachment patterns help to reveal deeper understanding of the relationships in which we find ourselves and in return, rewards us with a stronger sense of self and security to manage our own lives. I am also driven to help my clients make positive change by exploring and resolving ambivalence. Learning how to trust our own internal compass (or gut feeling) increases our self-awareness and resiliency.

I look forward to meeting you and joining you on this journey of self-discovery!

Leslie McIlvried, APRN, PMHNP, FNP

Philosophy of Care

Leslie McIlvried is a Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner, with dual specialties in Family, and Psychiatric Mental Health. She has worked in a wide range of settings for the past 20+ years and understands the impact of mental health issues on every area of life, from physical health to one's stability to realize their aspirations in their personal and work lives. Leslie partners with adults patients seeking to improve their mental health and restore wellness through medication management as well as therapeutic interventions and techniques.

Leslie received her BSN from Austin Peay State University, followed by her MSN, with a family specialty, from Vanderbilt University in 1997. A few years after transitioning to an outpatient psychiatric practice, she felt she had found her passion and the area of health care that she could have the greatest impact. Leslie went on to obtain her post-graduate certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from St Francis University.

Leslie believes that in order for any treatment plan to succeed a patient must "buy in" or feel reasonably confident that they can follow the plan and that it will work. She strives to obtain this "buy-in" by providing patient education and collaborating with patients to create holistic plans of care, that are individualized, to meet their specific needs.

Leslie recognizes that the decision to seek help for mental health issues can be a difficult one and believes that developing an authentic, trusting, therapeutic alliance with patients is the cornerstone of successful treatment. She offers a confidential, non-judgemental space to listen, to collaborate, and to develop a path to wellness.

Stephanie Valeri, PMHNP

Philosophy of Care

Stephanie has spent over 12 years as a nurse emphasizing the importance of therapeutic communication, empathy, and patient education. She understands that she is not just treating symptoms, but a person with a past, present, and future. She feels in helping patients understand their diagnosis and treatment options; they can make the best treatment decisions for themselves. She believes in developing a strong therapeutic relationship where there is open communication and time for questions so the patient feels comfortable when they leave the appointment with their plan of care, and understands the next steps if this plan is not effective.

Stephanie believes a therapeutic relationship is the foundation of a strong treatment plan. In this line of thinking she takes the time to listen and understand the patient's history so that she can understand not just where they are now, but how they got here. She then works to help her patients meet their own goals for their future through medication management and therapeutic techniques.

Stephanie is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (across the lifespan). She received her bachelor's in Psychology from Virginia Tech and then her Associate's Degree in Nursing. She has returned to her love of behavioral health and received a Master's of Nursing from Gonzaga University. Stephanie has spent her time as a Psychiatric Mental Health Practitioner focusing on treatment of multiple disorders.

Thriveworks Counseling Harrisonburg

Calm and Present

★★★★★
We have tried several counselors, and Krystle has been the most resourceful, considerate, present, and beneficial counselor, mediator, and role model for our blended family of 6, which includes 2 boys and 2 girls, coming from 2 different backgrounds, all having varying personalities and very different social and emotional needs. Krystle was able to help each child work through their weakness and build upon their strengths, one on one. She also worked with them as a group and helped them with sibling issues and social issues. Krystle provided us as parents, an outlet to be heard and to learn and practice strategies to help each child and the family unit. Krystle genuinely cares about her patients and maintains a calm and present demeanor throughout each patient experience. Without any doubt or hesitation, I highly recommend Krystle for your counseling needs.
