Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I wanted to become a counselor both to understand and to help others self-actualize. Humanity is capable of the best and the worst, and I want to move the needle towards the best.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I can work well with a wide variety of clients, so long as they come willing to do the work. If the client really wants to be helped and is willing to share and to listen, then I believe I can help them.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I gain great satisfaction from helping those with trauma heal from the wounds they have. I also have a good basis of understanding for the mechanics and treatment of ADHD that can go a long way in both the practical and emotional aspects of ADHD.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I can't do more work than you--you need to be ready, willing, and even eager to do the work for self-improvement and healing. But if you have that much, I think healing, growth, and/or recovery from almost anything is attainable with counseling and, if necessary, medication management.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Each position I've taken in my (admittedly limited) counseling journey so far has been distinctly different from the one before it. I believe Thriveworks can offer the next unique experience that can further diversify my experience and allow me to better relate to a greater variety of clients.
What inspires you?
Self-actualization and community actualization. Above all things, I want to see humanity achieve its best state. Though I know I'm only one person, I want to do what I can to help myself and those I can influence reach this state of best-self.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Sharing your journey as is relevant to why they're here with me. Before I make a plan or dive in to treatment, I want to understand a few key things about the client, including their motivation, what led to them being here (both in what caused their problem and what helped them realize it as a problem), and what they view as their biggest hurdle. Once I gain a sense of where they want to go, what they think is their biggest blocker, and their general sense of boundaries and accountability, I can establish a good plan and tailor my approach to the client's end-goal.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want the client to feel heard, understood, and seen. In my internship, I had a few clients who only came back for a second session despite poor previous experiences in counseling because I listened and made them feel understood in ways other counselors and helping professionals hadn't. I want the client to leave feeling like I know what they're going through and can help them.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I have a very comforting and calming presence that I like to use to challenge a client without them ever feeling threatened.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I like to play all sorts of games and to create. I play video games of all sorts and I lead a campaign of Dungeons and Dragons with a story fully created by me.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My open-mindedness and creativity
