As a woman in long-term recovery, a parent in a same-sex committed relationship who went through years of infertility and has four adopted children, and an adult with ADHD, I have a wealth of personal and professional experience in treating addiction, ADHD, LGBTQ+ issues, HIV, grief and loss, and many other mental health challenges.
Liz Kariotis-Rice is a Clinical Social Worker trained with a psychodynamic focus at New York University. She has expanded beyond that lens to a more humanistic, strength-based, and solution-focused one, based upon her experience working with a very diverse range of clients in settings ranging from community health centers to major hospitals to outpatient addiction treatment centers to street outreach and drop-in centers for the homeless. Her passions include working with people who have challenges in any of the following areas: sexuality, gender, ADHD, addiction, HIV, fertility, adoption, and parenting, and my professional experience includes but is not limited to helping people struggling with grief/loss, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
When working with Liz, it is paramount that clients understand therapy is a process that requires work from both the client and the therapist, and the work is not limited to just within the session for the client. She encourages clients to take as much responsibility as they can when caring for their physical, emotional, and spiritual health because while the therapist can certainly provide wisdom, guidance, and redirection, ultimately the strength, courage, and power to heal are within each and every individual client.
Liz's personal approach is to see beyond diagnoses and problems, and her style is transparent and somewhat nontraditional. She hopes through her work with individuals to be able to bring out their strengths behind the struggles, to point out the achievements where they see shortcomings, and to instill hope, no matter how dire the straits and bleak the outlook may look. Her therapeutic superpower is her ability to engage, connect, and build rapport with a wide range of people.
"If you are looking for a therapist who has many years of personal and professional experience with LGBTQ+ issues, addiction recovery, ADHD, grief/loss, infertility, adoption, and parenting, feel free to reach out to me," says Liz. "When I am not spending time with my four young children, four dogs, and two cats, I'm cooking, gardening, cycling, doing carpentry and art projects, listening to music, playing and watching sports, or enjoying the comfort of friends and fellowship."

Heather offers a fun, playful, collaborative, empathic environment and an integrative and holistic approach that combines aspects of play, mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral, strength-based, and psychodynamic theories to help you and/or your child understand and change nonproductive thoughts and behaviors, expand emotional awareness, improve relationships, build self-confidence, and face the obstacles that are getting in the way of living a happy and healthy life.
"I believe it is imperative to involve the parents and/or caregiver when working with children and adolescents," says Heather. "I will use a collaborative approach looking at the bio-psychosocial and spiritual model to better understand the child and family. I will involve the caregivers in treatment to support the child's strengths and hope to help caregivers better understand challenges the child is facing, and work on strategies together to overcome their struggles."

The work you put in will reward you, I want to help you remember that your mental health is a priority, your inner peace is essential and your self-care is a necessity. Josalin Scott is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. Her main area of specialty is helping individuals who are coping with depression, anxiety, ADHD/ADD diagnosis, self-harming, pet loss, family building concerns, and LGBTQ+ matters. Over the years, Josalin has gained experience by working with individuals who are coping with emotional abuse, deportation of family members, death of loved ones, and other painful experiences. She also works with individuals who seek treatment for anger management and stress management.
Josalin implements effective psychotherapy methods such as cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, client-centered, and humanistic approaches, which can be effective in assisting clients to instill self-understanding by encouraging them to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. It is essential to keep in mind therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix: Therapy is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the client and therapist alike. But in the end, making small changes to self-defeating behavior and coping with feelings of sadness, fear, anxiety, and pain can bring life-altering results. There is no judgment, only compassion and a safe environment to heal.
"Have a particular life obstacle you’re trying to overcome? Are you working to cope with everyday stressors? Couple or family conflicts? Coping with the loss of a loved pet? Need a LGBTQ+ affirming therapist? Seeking help from a licensed therapist is the best way to put things into perspective," says Josalin. I am dedicated to going above and beyond to assist with helping people empower themselves and find the answers they seek. I look forward to the prospect of supporting you in conquering the problems you are presently dealing with!"

As a nurse who has been practicing nursing for over 20 years and a Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Educator (of 10 years as well) working for a major city hospital in Massachusetts; caring for a wide ethnic group as well as young adults to geriatric population; working with many patients with mental health and substance abuse disorders in the in-patient and outpatient settings, I have practically seen it all and recognize some of the barriers to healthcare that the vulnerable and underserved population face therefore can understand the stigmatization and difficulty associated with caring for such group.
Mackie is a certified nurse practitioner currently working for a level 1 trauma center in Boston. In that role, she has the opportunity to care for a large population of homeless with mental health and substance abuse problems. A large component of the care provided involves the management of the psychological and social aspects through continuity of care and referrals.
Mackie is a self-driven healthcare professional who has used the knowledge acquired through the years of working at Boston Medical Center, the mental health program at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS), and the related precepting experience to condition herself to better help serve the mentally ill and substance abuse disorder population. Within the community that Mackie serves, she has found that mental health disorders is considered taboo and an unspoken topic of discussion among a large segment of its population. Aside from having to deal with the unprecedented psychological and physiological manifestation of the disorder, there are also the social components of recognition and acceptance of the disorder that is burdensome for some patients. Many of the clients that Mackie has come to observe, not only have to deal with mental health issues but suffer greatly from the lack of family support, in part, due to the associated stigma of the disorder. In addition to the psychological and medical therapeutic treatments that these clients received, many yearn for assistance from family and loved ones to help them cope, as their goals are to fight these demons and get better.
Mackie has a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from Houston University; a Bachelor and Master’s in Nursing from Regis College; a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Nursing Psychiatric Mental Health from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS). Mackie is an effective communicator with strong verbal and written skills and a calm demeanor that enables her to concisely communicate and connect with clients. Every case is different, each situation is unique, therefore a plan of care that involves the management of the psychological and social aspects through continuity of care and referrals; education on medication continuation and discontinuation risk factors; reinforcement of adherence to treatment plan; instructions to crisis intervention access; cognitive behavioral therapy; talk therapy or group therapy to improve confidence and social interaction; are among a few of the approaches that Mackie considers.
Suffering from social anxiety disorder can bring about feelings of inadequacy, pessimism, resentfulness, and fear of public engagement. Mackie is poised to help you channel your avoidance of social gatherings through understanding the severity of the symptoms you are experiencing and engaging you on a roadmap that would help manage those symptoms and improve the quality of your life. Why not schedule a visit with her when you feel comfortable to do so?
