I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over ten years of experience supporting adults through mood disorders, addiction, and life challenges. I began my career as a chemical dependency counselor and now specialize in helping clients build coping skills that support lasting growth and change.
I earned my Master’s in Rehabilitative Counseling from the University of North Texas. I use cognitive behavioral therapy and rational emotive behavior therapy to tailor care to each client’s needs. I focus on creating a collaborative space where clients feel heard, respected, and supported while working toward their goals.

Kris Fredericksen is licensed clinical social worker and native Texan. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M in psychology and her Masters of Science of Social Work at The University of Texas in Austin. She has extensive experience teaching parents effective discipline methods that builds and repairs relationships with their children. She is sensitive to sexual orientation, culture, race, ethnicity, religious or spiritual affiliation, and has specialized training supporting the LGBTQ, transgendered and gender variant communities. She partners with clients to find viable solutions within their existing framework, skills and abilities to improve their mental and emotional states and life circumstances.
Kris treats symptoms of depression, anxiety, poor self-esteem, ADHD, mood and affect disorders, psychosis, substance abuse, self-harm, family dysfunction, relationship issues, domestic violence, and feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. When working with people in individual therapy, I focus on fitting my approach to the individual. I find that most people benefit from developing a mindfulness practice to become more aware of their thinking and increase their ability to direct their thinking instead of letting it direct them, as well as strategies to examine and change thinking patterns that lead to distress. These skills can then be used in combination with other skills and methods to address the specific needs of the client such as issues with negative thinking, emotional reactivity, conflict in relationships, and coping with life stressors.
I often teach the following tools in individual counseling;
I check in with clients about their progress with their goals and the improvements they are seeing in their symptoms every session. Meaningful progress is evident as the list of progress and successes gets longer and the list of challenges gets shorter.
Clients' efforts to implement the skills they are learning and the goals that they set between sessions are essential to making progress in therapy.
Clients can prepare for therapy by thinking about what they want to achieve, in addition to what it is they want to move away from.

Together, you and your therapist collaboratively establish specific, attainable goals for your sessions, which can encompass symptom alleviation, personal development, or finding solutions to particular challenges.

Individual therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and via Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The duration of your individual therapy sessions will vary. The decision on the number and frequency of sessions is typically collaboratively determined by the client and therapist.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state.
