As a lifelong Idahoan, I understand the struggle to find mental health care and I returned to my home state to be a provider for those seeking a compassionate and empathetic counselor.
I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with 8 years of experience supporting individuals as they navigate anxiety, OCD, depression, and relationship and family concerns. I believe the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in meaningful change, and I work collaboratively with clients to clarify their goals and align their values with the life they want to build.
I earned my master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Northern Arizona University. My work is grounded in a cognitive behavioral framework, with treatment tailored to each individual’s needs. I frequently use exposure and response prevention therapy, particularly when working with clients experiencing anxiety and OCD.

Eileen Ganong is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with more than 14 years of experience working with adults and seniors who are faced with anxiety, depression, substance abuse, weight-related issues, grief, difficult life transitions, trauma, and PTSD.
Eileen received her Master's degree from Barry University in Miami, FL, and is licensed in Florida as well as her home state of Idaho. Her experience includes working for seven years as an inpatient Social Worker at an acute care psychiatric unit, supervising a large Mobile Crisis team, and assisting in outpatient therapy. Her therapeutic approaches include trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, and motivational interviewing. It can be very overwhelming to see a therapist, particularly if this is your first time.

My go-to approach in helping people in grief and loss counseling is verbal processing combined with CBT techniques to help create realistic and compassionate perspectives about loss. I also enjoy using metaphors, narrative techniques, and journaling, as well as therapeutic art because accessing extremely painful losses and the emotions around that loss can be difficult. Creative techniques allow the client to approach the material from a safer and sometimes more effective perspective.
I teach the following tools in grief and loss counseling: acceptance, healthy emotional expression, acknowledging the complex and complicated emotions that accompany grief and loss, understanding the grief process, and working to integrate the experience into the client's life in a meaningful way.
I see clients making meaningful progress when they begin moving out of behaviors defined by grief and loss and into a more integrated life where grief and other associated emotions are accompanied by moments of joy and appreciation of the loss and the life they still have.
Clients can supplement their time in grief and loss counseling with journaling; engaging in behavioral homework (which admittedly is difficult when you're hurting); and creating connections with their community (however they define it), the loss of the person or situation which triggered the grief, and their inner selves.
To prepare for their first grief and loss counseling session, a client can begin keeping track of the timeline for the loss and accompanying grief, their emotions, and in what ways the loss has impacted their lives. I hope clients understand that this counseling is not going to minimize their loss or help them “get over it” — we don't “get over” grief. Instead, we work with it until the edges are less raw and we learn to live in spite of it, as it becomes integrated with who we are.

It helps people navigate their grief process and eventually accept, understand, and move forward from their loss.
