What is your go-to approach for individual therapy?

Rebecca: My go-to approach for helping individuals is really trying to get to know who they are and understand what they are struggling with. I use an eclectic modality, blending different therapeutic approaches based on individual needs. Basically, I use the therapy that works best for the circumstance!

Katie: My go-to approach for helping people in individual therapy is being client-centered, nonjudgmental, and goal-oriented. I find the best results come from consistency because it creates accountability and keeps therapy focused on reaching the goals you want to achieve with the assistance of mental health expertise.

What tools do you teach in individual therapy?

Rebecca: The coping skills and tools will vary for each individual, but in general, a mindful, intentional approach is a good place to start!

Katie: I teach the following tools in individual therapy:

  • Emotion regulation
  • Distress tolerance
  • Mindfulness
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Grounding techniques
  • Communication styles

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy?

Rebecca: I know a client is making progress when that internal lightbulb goes on, the client feels lighter, and there is a noticeable absence of stress in the physical appearance.

Katie: I know a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy when I know that they are applying the skills discussed in our sessions to their everyday life. I hear it in the way they talk and demonstrate an understanding of the impact therapy has had on their life.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement individual therapy?

Rebecca: Clients can supplement therapy with lots of things! Social media is full of excellent ideas, and I always have resources to recommend. I always check in with clients to see what other sources they are getting information from.

Katie: Clients can supplement their time in individual therapy by practicing their skills at home, journaling, reading about their mental health condition, or watching educational videos on YouTube.

What should someone do to prepare for starting individual therapy?

Rebecca: Clients can relax! We are here to help you be your best self! But, if you want to jot down some of the things you would like to cover, that’s great also!

Katie: To prepare for your first individual therapy session, you can do the following:

  • Create bullet points of topics you want to discuss
  • Identify your therapy goals beforehand
  • Know that you aren't required to talk about anything you don't want to
  • Understand that your therapist knows it takes a lot to just simply show up
  • Remember that everything in therapy is confidential

Starting Individual therapy in Beverly Hills

What is individual therapy?

Individual therapy, also known as Individual therapy, allows people to engage in private sessions with a skilled therapist, counselor, or psychologist. The core objective of individual therapy is to establish a secure and confidential setting where you can openly discuss whatever emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges you face. Through these one-on-one sessions, the client and therapist work together to delve into, comprehend, and ultimately find solutions for the issues at hand in their life.

How does individual therapy work?

Individual therapy unfolds in a structured process, commencing with an initial assessment in which the therapist gathers essential information about your history, concerns, and objectives. Together, you and your therapist collaboratively establish specific, attainable goals for your sessions, which can encompass symptom alleviation, personal development, or finding solutions to particular challenges.
