About
As a therapist, my goal is to assist clients in understanding how the past impacts today's behaviors, thoughts, and choices.
I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with 16 years of experience supporting individuals and families navigating depression, anxiety, substance-use concerns, mood disorders, trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder. I also have extensive experience working with those impacted by traumatic events and substance-use history. My goal is to provide a safe, compassionate space where you can explore your emotions, deepen self-awareness, and begin healing with support that meets your unique needs.
I earned my master’s degree in community counseling from Argosy University. I use mindfulness-based and spiritually-informed approaches, along with dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution-focused techniques. I work creatively and flexibly to tailor treatment to each person or couple I serve.
My goal is to help you piece together the parts of your life so you can move toward wholeness. I value open, honest dialogue because healing begins when we can acknowledge our pain without fear or judgment. Together, we can build clarity, foster resilience, and create meaningful pathways toward the life you want

My go-to approach for helping families who see me for family therapy is compassion-focused and reflective/active listening. I prefer this approach as it helps to build the foundation for effective and long-lasting communication. Who doesn't need more compassion and listening in their lives?
In family therapy with me, you will gain the tools needed to increase your overall understanding of your family members and yourself. I work on both the family unit and the unique individuals within the unit for an all-inclusive healing process.
I know progress is being made in a family therapy session when each family member starts to share the small successes they have experienced in between sessions.
I encourage all my families to use their personal time in between sessions to enjoy each other's company and find something happy to do together. Life is hard; let's leave the hardest part to be dealt with in a therapeutic setting.
To prepare for your first session in family therapy, I encourage everyone who will be participating to agree beforehand that therapy will be a safe space where anything can be shared without fear.
Family therapy helps families resolve conflicts and strengthen their relationships. It is led by qualified mental health professionals like psychologists, licensed professional counselors (LPCs), and licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs) who have extensive training in family dynamics and group communication.
Thriveworks family therapists in Smyrna, GA usually begin by asking what everyone’s goals are for family counseling. Family members may need help with very specific issues or with general relationship functioning. But there are three main purposes in family counseling: to educate, to counsel, and to strengthen. Thriveworks also offers online family therapy and in-person services, so you may all meet in an office together or join a video call from your home depending on everyone’s location and availability.
The most effective form of Family therapy will often depend on the family itself, as there are many types of family therapy for therapists to use as they see fit in order to best meet the needs of their clients. However, one of the most commonly used types of family therapy is structural family therapy (SFT). SFT focuses specifically on family dynamics and interactions, looking at how they shape the relationships and structure present in the family. It can be effectively used to treat a variety of concerns.
This answer often looks different to each family that starts family therapy. However, some signs that your family might need to consider family counseling include frequent fights or misunderstandings, constant tension, experiencing loss, behavioral issues, marital issues, divorce, and blended family issues, among others.
In family therapy, therapists will often start by asking questions and assessing individual and family dynamics. From there, they may employ therapeutic techniques such as structured family therapy, CBT, strategic family therapy, and more depending on the present concerns and conflicts. From there, a therapist will work to open lines of communication between family members and facilitate emotional healing and growth.
Family therapy can be incredibly successful, with some studies reporting a success rate of almost 90% for improving participants’ emotional and mental health, and around 66% for improving their physical health.
Thriveworks therapists in Smyrna, GA offer both online family therapy and in-person family therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
Family therapy is usually short term and solution-focused, with most families accomplishing their goals in 12 sessions or fewer. However, it can also last for longer if the probles at hand are more complex — and that’s okay, too.
