While marriage and couple’s counseling is typically recommended for couples who are experiencing persistent or severe relationship issues, any relationship can benefit from attending these sessions.

  • Worrying about possible infidelity
  • Managing anger towards a spouse or children
  • Failing to communicate effectively
  • Disagreeing about raising children
  • Arguing over spending habits and debt

Does My Relationship Need Counseling?

Of course, it’s normal for relationships to have their ups and downs throughout the years. Some days you’ll be reminded of why you fell in love with each other, but at other times you may feel like you’re virtually two strangers living under the same roof.

Are you experiencing more downs than ups lately? These can often pop up as a nasty surprise, especially when your relationship has otherwise been quite happy. Whether the frustrations you’re experiencing have mounted over time or are caused by one specific matter, Arlington VA marriage therapy can offer the support you need to bring happiness and strength back into your relationship.

Why Attend Couples Counseling?

Are you still feeling unsure about whether seeing a couples counselor is the right answer for you and your partner? Here are a few specific benefits of investing in marriage therapy:

  • Professional counselors are experts at helping you move ahead when you feel stuck. In fact, counseling is ideal when couples know what’s wrong, but not how to fix it
  • Regardless of the outcome, participating in counseling is an excellent idea if you would like to give your marriage another chance before making any big decisions
  • Therapy can help you and your spouse develop better problem solving and communication skills that will help in the future
  • Attending counseling can help you gain a far greater understanding of who your spouse is and what motivates him or her.

Coming to the Decision to Divorce

Perhaps you haven’t tried therapy yet, but you and your spouse have made the choice to divorce. You may still want to attend Thriveworks Arlington, VA couples therapy in order to resolve your issues and move forward in the least contentious way possible, for the sake of both yourselves and your children. Many spouses no longer wish to be married to one another, but still want to act with civility and respect.

Or, you may come to see a counselor and realize during the sessions that divorce is actually the best option for both of you. If that’s the case, a sensitive and pragmatic therapist can offer the support you need to help you work through this trying time for a less acrimonious conclusion. No one expects their marriage will end up in divorce, but working through your issues in a supportive environment can make the situation easier, especially if you will be co-parenting children.
