About John

John Vymetal-Taylor is a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 30 years of experience helping adolescents and adults. Much of his work has been with children and young adults addressing trauma, loss, addiction, and sexual abuse. He is a proud ally of the LGBTQ+ community and has extensive experience with foster care and child welfare issues.

John received his Master’s in Counseling from San Diego State University, where he participated in a program focused on multiculturalism and social justice. John uses a variety of person-centered approaches to help his clients, from meditation and mindfulness to cognitive behavioral therapy.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?


I learned years ago that I have some talent for helping people move forward in life and wish to continue sharing my skills in that area.

What inspires you?


Dogs--all dogs!


What can clients expect in their first session with you?


In our first session we will discuss their needs, explain what counseliing is like, discuss what has worked or not worked for them previously.


What do you do for fun/on your time off?


Spend time in nature, play music.
