What is your go-to approach for PTSD/trauma therapy?

I use CBT. CBT is versatile and it gives control to the client to figure out how best to achieve their goals.

What tools do you teach in PTSD/trauma therapy?

I teach the following tools: learning problem-solving skills, coping skills, breathing techniques, communication skills, self-awareness, stress reduction, and meditation as well as expressing themselves through effective communication and gaining insight into the issues they are facing.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in PTSD/trauma therapy?

I know the client is making significant progress in treatment when they report that they are having fewer symptoms, are experiencing fewer obsessive thoughts, and have improved sleep.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement PTSD/trauma therapy?

They can find in-person or online self-help groups or they can read (online or in a book) about how others have coped with PTSD/trauma.

What should someone do to prepare for starting PTSD/trauma therapy?

To prepare for the first session, clients can take a personal inventory of what they want to accomplish in therapy and write it down so they remember what they want to say.
