About
Hello! I am an LCSW with over seventeen years of counseling experience and I have a wide variety of interests and hobbies.
I have a BFA in painting and an MSW, and over seventeen years of counseling experience. Prior to earning my MSW, I worked on a crisis line. My parents came from different cultural backgrounds, and I am a parent who has been both married and divorced. While I maintain a circle of family and close friends, I have also experienced multiple losses, and both of my parents are gone. My life experiences have helped me become a better counselor. I work particularly well with clients who struggle with grief, anxiety, and depression.
As a counselor, I take a humanistic and client-centered approach. To me, counseling is the constant asking of "What next?" — meaning that through both prosperous and difficult times, it is important to make sound, responsible decisions. I have collaborated with adults, children, and adolescents, and provided individual, group, and couples counseling.
The variety and breadth of my experiences have contributed to my effectiveness as a counselor. Counseling is a journey that can be illuminating, and fun, but also arduous and demanding. I look forward to accompanying you on that journey.

I use EMDR and evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy to help clients process experiences, regulate emotions, and move toward change. My goal is to provide a calm, supportive space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to grow. Together, we will identify emotional roadblocks, develop practical tools, and build skills that support lasting progress. If you are ready to move beyond surviving and begin creating the life and relationships you want, I look forward to working with you.

As a woman who lived in a life full of trauma, I understand the difficulty of processing and the importance of discovering who you really are as a person.
Debra Konecni is a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in working with clients who have experienced a traumatic event — especially anyone who has experienced any type of child abuse or any type of sexual abuse. These are often individuals who have been hiding their hurts because they have been afraid to address the trauma, or do not know how to address the situation. Debra's goal is to assist each individual with working through the trauma and help them find their true self by believing in their story, giving them the opportunity to share their story sometimes for the first time. Everyone should have the option to work through hurts and not stay stuck in them — everyone should be given the opportunity to work all way to the other side and become a survivor instead of a victim.
Debra uses active listening, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). and schema therapy to help her clients. She also encourages journaling through their emotions to find their true selves. "Like the lotus flower, beauty coming out of the depth of mud; every individual could blossom out of a life of trauma, abuse, or just day-to-day frustrating moments that find them crippled or stuck in any way," says Debra. "Through the transforming and renewing of our minds, we do not have to repeat history or become the person someone tried to make us."
Through the process of addressing past hurts and trauma, it is Debra's goal and desire to empathize with individuals to reach their full potential in life. She has many years of experience rising out of the mud of her own lifelong trauma, which enables her to equip with hope and grace. "I welcome you into a safe haven to process through your hurts and struggles, to help you to strive and thrive," says Debra.

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.
Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.
There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your specific needs and with whom you can form a professional connection with.
Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.
Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.

If you’ve been struggling with a mental health issue and need compassionate and experienced guidance, you can find support at Thriveworks Counseling in Tempe, AZ. Contact us to schedule your first online counseling appointment today.
You may be surprised by how little difference there is between traditional therapy and virtual therapy. Many clients find that online therapy appointments are just as effective as face-to-face appointments in an office environment. The main difference, of course, is simply how you choose to speak to your counselor or therapist.
At Thriveworks, we offer a range of therapy services in a virtual setting. These are some examples:
If you want to experience the benefits of virtual therapy, licensed professionals are standing by at Thriveworks Counseling.
Online therapy is simple, which makes it a perfect option if you know you could benefit from speaking to a counselor. Live video chat has many advantages. When it comes to talk therapy, sometimes it’s easier to build the trusting relationship necessary for this collaborative process when you can look your counselor or therapist in the eye. Your provider may also have an easier time reading your emotions and body language, in turn making sessions more productive. Online therapy by video makes this possible without having to go in person to meet with your provider.
Thriveworks clients are able to enjoy convenient access to mental health services without leaving the comfort of their homes. For those who lack reliable transportation, live in remote areas, or find in-person therapy appointments intimidating, remote therapy is a particularly beneficial option. When it comes to your therapy sessions, especially when you’re just getting started, frequency and consistency are important if you want to see results. Talk therapy sessions don’t always offer quick and easy solutions. It takes time for your counselor to get to know your situation and understand your issues so they can guide you through them. With the option of remote therapy, it’s easier to commit to a consistent schedule without worrying about bad weather, transportation issues, and minor sicknesses getting in the way.
If you’ve been interested in speaking to a licensed mental health professional, it’s easier than ever to get started with online counseling from Thriveworks in Tempe, AZ.
Mental health services can be an essential support system for individuals overcoming mental, emotional, and behavioral health issues. Sometimes, speaking to a counselor or therapist can be the most important decision a person makes when they’re going through a rough patch.
For that reason, Thriveworks makes sure it is as easy as possible to get the help you need. Therapy sessions are simple to book by phone or online and we even offer weekend and evening availability for both our in-person and remote therapy appointments. We accept insurance and can often accommodate requests for same-week appointments.
