About
As a woman who lived in a life full of trauma, I understand the difficulty of processing and the importance of discovering who you really are as a person.
Debra Konecni is a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in working with clients who have experienced a traumatic event — especially anyone who has experienced any type of child abuse or any type of sexual abuse. These are often individuals who have been hiding their hurts because they have been afraid to address the trauma, or do not know how to address the situation. Debra's goal is to assist each individual with working through the trauma and help them find their true self by believing in their story, giving them the opportunity to share their story sometimes for the first time. Everyone should have the option to work through hurts and not stay stuck in them — everyone should be given the opportunity to work all way to the other side and become a survivor instead of a victim.
Debra uses active listening, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). and schema therapy to help her clients. She also encourages journaling through their emotions to find their true selves. "Like the lotus flower, beauty coming out of the depth of mud; every individual could blossom out of a life of trauma, abuse, or just day-to-day frustrating moments that find them crippled or stuck in any way," says Debra. "Through the transforming and renewing of our minds, we do not have to repeat history or become the person someone tried to make us."
Through the process of addressing past hurts and trauma, it is Debra's goal and desire to empathize with individuals to reach their full potential in life. She has many years of experience rising out of the mud of her own lifelong trauma, which enables her to equip with hope and grace. "I welcome you into a safe haven to process through your hurts and struggles, to help you to strive and thrive," says Debra.

Anxiety therapy helps people better understand and manage their anxiety. Anxiety therapists at Thriveworks in Peoria, AZ can develop a treatment plan that will help you better manage your day-to-day anxiety or your anxiety disorder.
Anxiety therapy involves talking to a therapist about symptoms, potential causes, and more. Thriveworks Peoria therapists will then work with you to determine where your anxiety might stem from and teach you effective coping mechanisms.
One of the best ways to deal with anxiety is to learn about your own anxiety: your symptoms, what triggers it, and what coping mechanisms have been effective in the past. When you learn what your anxiety is tied to, it can help you be mindful of what’s really happening as well as prevent and mitigate symptoms by processing and working through the issue in therapy. Other strategies that have been shown to help manage anxiety are meditation, challenging anxious thoughts, exercising, and journaling.
Common symptoms of anxiety include:
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be incredibly effective in treating anxiety and anxiety disorders. Other effective techniques include exposure therapy, Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and EMDR therapy.
Anxiety therapy is conducted both in person and online, depending on the individual’s preferences and their therapist’s availability. We suggest choosing the option that best suits your needs.
On average, people can tend to attend 15 to 20 session of anxiety therapy (five or more months). However, this number is heavily dependent on the type of anxiety that’s being treated and its severity, with many choosing to attend anxiety therapy for a longer period of time to ensure its effectiveness long-term.
Yes, it is worth going to therapy for anxiety. If you are struggling with regular anxious thoughts and feelings that are affecting your day-to-day life or you suspect that you have an anxiety disorder, you should seek expert anxiety help.
Anxiety is a serious mental illness and can have a long-term impact on both your physical and mental health. It can stop you from trying new things and going for opportunities and relationships that would lead to a happier and more fulfilling life. This makes seeking out therapy for anxiety all the more important.

Past experiences, genetics, and environmental factors can all contribute to anxiety disorders. There are many types of anxiety and people can experience them in different ways; even so, some of the most common anxiety symptoms include:
One of the most commonly experienced forms of anxiety is called generalized anxiety disorder. If you’re experiencing anxiety symptoms over a long period of time and tend to worry a great deal about daily stressors, this may be a sign of generalized anxiety disorder.
Other forms of anxiety include panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social anxiety disorder, seasonal affective disorder (SAD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (ODC), and postpartum depression.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is one of the most common types of talk therapy a counselor can use to help you overcome symptoms of anxiety. With the help of a therapist, you can learn to retrain your brain, finding new ways to approach and process anxiety to alleviate symptoms. You may learn more effective thinking patterns, coping skills, and relaxation techniques (like deep breathing and meditation) to reduce short-term and long-term anxiety symptoms.
If you’re suffering from PTSD or dealing with a particular phobia, your counselor may choose to treat you with exposure therapy. Clients who undergo exposure therapy learn to face an otherwise overwhelming situation in safe and manageable steps. In this way, you can gradually train your body’s anxiety response and learn to manage symptoms.
Dealing with anxiety can make any situation feel overwhelming. That’s why we strive to make mental health assistance at Thriveworks a simple and stress-free experience. Clients can take advantage of online appointments by video chat to enjoy the benefits of therapy without leaving home.
