Starting Online therapy

What is online therapy?

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.

What is the best option for online therapy?

There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your specific needs and with whom you can form a professional connection with.

Is online therapy just as effective?

Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.

How long does online therapy last?

Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.

How much does online therapy cost?

At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.

Need more help deciding?

Thriveworks has observed an important need in the mental health sphere: more convenient and flexible options. We’ve seen that many people can’t commit to a counseling appointment because they already feel overwhelmed by the amount of appointments on their schedule. “If only there was greater convenience and flexibility!” We hear you, and we’re here to offer a solution: online counseling.

Online counseling was made to offer people a more convenient and flexible way to meet with a counselor. It’s also great for people who would rather attend their counseling sessions from the comfort of home, on their lunch break at work, or elsewhere. Thriveworks Ohio Counseling is proud to offer both telephone counseling and video counseling, the two most effective online counseling options out there. Both options can prove valuable to your life; it will simply come down to which approach you prefer! Either way, our online counseling are excited for the chance to meet and work with you.

If you’re interested in online or virtual counseling—the utmost convenient and flexible counseling option out there today—consider contacting Thriveworks Ohio Counseling. Our scheduling staff is on call, ready to set you up with a telephone counselor or video counselor. Regardless of which online counseling type you choose, our counselors are here to help you confront your challenges, hurdles, demons, or whatever you prefer to call them! We’re here, and we’re on your side.

How Does Thriveworks Ohio Online Counseling Work?

Here at Thriveworks Ohio Counseling, online counseling is easy. It doesn’t require you to have a high level of experience or skills with technology. Instead, you simply need access to a device, like a telephone or computer, of which will allow you to hop on to a phone or video call with your provider! This, of course, means that you’ll need to have internet connection, too. But that is the extent of the requirements for our online counseling services.

Are you wondering whether you should go with telephone or video counseling? Consider the following:

  • Video counseling allows you to meet with your counselor face-to-face
  • Telephone counseling might be easier to attend if you are on the go or don’t have a lot of privacy
  • Video counseling most resembles in-person counseling
  • Telephone counseling offers greater anonymity as your counselor only hears your voice and does not see your face

The bottom line is that if you are looking for that face-to-face interaction, video counseling is likely the online counseling option for you. If, on the other hand, you’d prefer greater anonymity and flexibility, telephone counseling might be the route you’re looking for.

What Can I Accomplish in Online Counseling?

The online counselors on the Thriveworks Ohio Counseling team are capable of helping their clients with a wide range of problems, in virtually every area of life. For example, you can work with your online counselor to accomplish the following:

  • Properly manage and better cope with a mental health condition
  • Understand, discuss, and resolve relationship problems
  • Manage stress and identify unnecessary or manageable stressors
  • Learn to control angry tendencies
  • Recover from addiction or substance abuse problems
  • Gain a third party’s perspective on your situation

The online counselors and therapists at Thriveworks Ohio Counseling aren’t just qualified to help with your mental health challenges, they truly care about your wellbeing and want to do everything they can to help you live a happy, successful life. In addition to the problems that you have determined, they will help you identify other potential problem areas in your life. Then, they will help you tackle those too!

Alannah has been a fantastically safe space for me to be comfortable enough to share my true thoughts, experiences, and feelings, without having to feel the need to censor myself. They are working with me—not trying to change me—by giving me the tools I need to better express myself in a healthy, positive way. And, that, my friends, has made all the difference.
