Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a counselor due to childhood and life experiences that lead me to want to help others who have struggled and help them realize how important they are and the possibilities for their future. I spent many years moving around, going from different jobs; I even joined the Navy because I was looking for some structure in my life. I initially began my higher education in Criminal Justice, but soon realized I was going down the wrong path. My approach is holistic. I see the entire person and their experiences. I have always said that I help people, I don't treat a diagnosis. I enjoy what I do. I believe in the inner person and their ability to change. It sure has been a wonderful journey and cannot see me doing anything else.
