Get to know Gabriel
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
For as long as I can remember, people have always felt comfortable talking with me about their problems. I feel a calling to help suffering people, and I genuinely find people interesting and worth getting to know.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who are serious about therapy and know that psychotherapy is about working toward change.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I love to work with patients who are seeking boundaries in their relationships, and it is exciting to see the results bear positive fruit in their lives. I also find it exciting when I have the opportunity to work with clients whose psychological concerns include questions in the existential realm.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Life is worth living.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I love the Thriveworks mission toward healing.
What inspires you?
When patients make improvements in their lives -- that inspires me. When they make better decisions based on the principles we've discussed. When I see them heal before my eyes. When they leave the session more encouraged than when they entered -- that inspires me.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
The first session is the Intake Session. We'll talk about why you're here, gather relevant background information, and schedule the next session.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In the first session, the goal is to identify the problem the patient is here to address, build rapport, and see if we're a good fit.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
People have told me I am a refreshing combination of sincerity and warmth.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love to read, play chess, and go on dates with my wife to concerts and plays.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I was born and raised in Washington, D.C.
