With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.
Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.
Mental health counselors help individuals address mental health issues, from mental illness to stress, relationship problems, and others. These live sessions, which take place over video, allow the client and therapist to make meaningful progress together.

Mental Health Issues Addressed in Online Counseling
You might be wondering, “Can online counseling help me with my mental health issues?” The answer is most likely yes. The only true major difference between in-person and online counseling is that with the latter, you meet with your therapist in a virtual environment. You are still able to have important (yet tough) conversations, which is the catalyst for change.
To be more specific, online counseling can help people with a wide variety of mental health issues, including:
- Symptoms of depression or anxiety
- Relationship issues, like infidelity or parenting disagreements
- Family conflicts, like misbehavior in a child
- Addiction and substance abuse problems
- Eating disorders like bulimia and anorexia
- Stress, anger, and other difficult emotions
- Traumatic experiences
- Grief and loss
These are common mental health issues that many people, like you and I, will experience in our lifetime. That said, there are other problems that online counselors can help their clients with. If you are struggling with any given challenge that is hurting or threatening your mental and emotional health, please don’t hesitate to reach out to an online therapist.
