What is your go-to approach for individual therapy?

My go-to approach for helping people in individual therapy is to always remain client-centered. Your goals are my goals for you, too. We are here to work together toward the best, most attainable outcomes for you. Therapeutic rapport is one of the best predictors of success, meaning the success of any approaches I love to use (CBT, DBT, Existentialism) stems from remaining client-centered.

What tools do you teach in individual therapy?

While this list is by no means exhaustive, I do focus on teaching the following tools in individual therapy:

  • The ability to tell the difference between thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and beliefs
  • Improving mindfulness, the ability to “think about your thinking”
  • Tangible coping skills to use in moments of high-stress

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy when the concerns that initially brought them in no longer have such a profound impact on their day-to-day life. This is not to say that certain events do not leave a lasting impact, but rather that the client has found a way to accommodate those experiences into how they want their life to look. Additionally, a client is making progress when they are able to work on other areas of their life that perhaps were inaccessible due to the intensity of the initial concern.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement individual therapy?

In their personal time, clients can supplement individual therapy by creating or participating in environments that promote the kind of wellness and healing they strive for. You are a reflection of the people and environments you surround yourself with!

What should someone do to prepare for starting individual therapy?

To prepare for your first individual therapy session, all you need is to schedule the appointment! Sometimes, just starting therapy and showing up is half the work, and clients do not need to be stressed about being “prepared” for a first appointment. Try to lean on a support person who knows you will be starting therapy and who you can check in with after your first session.

Starting Individual therapy

What is individual therapy?

Individual therapy, also known as individual-counseling, allows people to engage in private sessions with a skilled therapist, counselor, or psychologist. The core objective of individual therapy is to establish a secure and confidential setting where you can openly discuss whatever emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges you face. Through these one-on-one sessions, the client and therapist work together to delve into, comprehend, and ultimately find solutions for the issues at hand in their life.

How does individual therapy work?

Individual therapy unfolds in a structured process, commencing with an initial assessment in which the therapist gathers essential information about your history, concerns, and objectives. Together, you and your therapist collaboratively establish specific, attainable goals for your sessions, which can encompass symptom alleviation, personal development, or finding solutions to particular challenges.

Can individual therapy help me?

Yes, individual therapy, also known as individual-counseling, at Thriveworks can help you to improve your mental health and overall quality of life.

Is individual therapy conducted in person or online?

Individual therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and via Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How long does individual therapy last?

The duration of your individual therapy sessions will vary. The decision on the number and frequency of sessions is typically collaboratively determined by the client and therapist.

How much does individual therapy cost?

At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. Since day one Marie has been so nice and understanding of all my issues with anger. She has helped me so much to take a step back and analyze issues and approach them in a very calm manner and retrain my brain to deal with anxiety issues that lead to anger. She has helped a ton in putting forth effort to better my marriage and other relationships with family. I couldn’t thank her enough for all her help in the last couple of months and in the future! Love her!! Definitely recommend her!

I have known Cassandra for over 10 years and have seen her work hard for the clients she serves. She is caring and compassionate while also approaching her work with clients and colleagues realistically and honestly. They know she is trustworthy and means what she says, and that it comes from a good place. She genuinely wants the best for others.

Jennifer is one of the best and I'd recommend her to everyone without thinking twice. She's helped me though burnout, anxiety, grief (and so much more), while being one of the most compassionate and knowledgeable therapists I've interacted with.
