About
As someone who has walked alongside individuals, couples, and families through trauma, loss, and life transitions, I bring an empathetic and strengths-based approach that honors each person's unique story.
I am an Associate Clinical Social Worker with 4 years of experience supporting children, teens, adults, older adults, couples, and families through trauma, loss, and life transitions. My goal is to help clients strengthen resilience, restore connection, and achieve emotional well-being in a safe, compassionate space. Together, we'll identify strengths, build coping tools, and create positive change through collaboration and self-awareness.
I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Walden University. My approach is trauma-informed, empathic, and strengths-based. I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and family systems techniques to support healing.
In our work together, you can expect warmth, authenticity, and respect. Whether you're navigating relationships, grief, or personal challenges, I'll walk alongside you to foster healing, clarity, and confidence. You deserve a space to feel heard, supported, and empowered toward lasting growth.

Hi, I'm Yo-at (YOE-aht) Silverman and I've been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) for nearly 20 years. I've been doing therapy since I finished my MA at New College of California in 2007, and I've been licensed since 2009.
Have you been experiencing a lot of worry, stress and anxiety lately? Has something significant changed in your life and you're just trying to make heads or tails of it all? Are you having issues staying on task or maintaining focus at work or at school? Are you trying to figure out how to get along with family, friends or coworkers? Have you and your partner been having issues communicating and trusting each other? Are you motivated to create change for your own growth and benefit? I can help.
My style is supportive, solution-focused, and coping skills centered. I'll listen without judgement or criticism and I'll give you concrete ideas and suggestions that are designed to help you in improving your quality of life, your relationships and your self-care (and no, I'm not talking about manicures or haircuts).
And if you need a vent session, I'm here for that, too.
I look forward to meeting you.
You deserve dedicated time with a mental health professional — it can be life-changing.

Couples therapy and marriage counseling, also known as relationship counseling, helps couples work through their specific relationship issues. Some examples of common focuses within couples therapy and marriage counseling include:
The types of therapy used in couples and marriage counseling include:
At Thriveworks, Couples/marriage therapy is led by licensed professionals — often licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) — who are experts in their field and best-equipped to help couples.
The Gottman Method of couples therapy is a research-supported approach designed to enhance relationships by bolstering the bond between partners, resolving conflicts, and fostering shared meaning in their relationship through comprehensive assessments and tailored interventions that improve communication, trust, and the overall health of the partnership.
If you’re facing persistent relationship problems, communication breakdowns, or unresolved conflicts that are impacting your emotional well-being and happiness, Couples/marriage therapy may be beneficial for you.
While marriage and couple’s counseling is typically recommended for couples who are experiencing persistent or severe relationship issues, any relationship can benefit from attending these sessions.
Marriage and couples counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you and your partner.
On average, couples attend marriage and couples counseling for 12 weeks. However, couples & marriage counseling may last longer or shorter, dependent on the couples’ needs, the challenges they’d like to work through, and the pace of their progress.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.
Relationships are not easy. Some people think that once they find “the one” their life will suddenly be perfect. The reality is that relationships require a lot of hard work and dedication, no matter how perfect you two might be for each other. Roadblocks and conflicts are inevitable in any relationship; it’s the way we deal with them that really matters.
Are you having constant disagreements and having trouble seeing things from your partner’s perspective? Do you feel like you’re walking on eggshells lately? Are you frustrated with the way things have been going and think you could use an unbiased, professional approach? If so, you may benefit from seeking out the help of a licensed marriage and family therapist. Relationship therapy provides a neutral ground where you can work to resolve conflict with guidance and direction from someone with an experienced and third-party perspective.
When difficulties in your relationship crop up, we can help. Consider speaking to a couples therapist or marriage counselor at Thriveworks Counseling in San Bernardino, CA.
These are just a few of the most common reasons individuals seek out couples counseling:
Couples therapy doesn’t need to revolve around a specific issue. It’s not just for couples on the brink of divorce who have regular screaming matches or suffer from abusive relationships. You may simply feel that something is “off,” that communication is lacking, or even that your sex life leaves something to be desired.
Seeking out the help of a licensed marriage and family therapist is often the first step toward a happier and healthier future together. Working collaboratively under the guidance of a professional can make your relationship stronger and help you learn strategies to face life’s many difficulties together.
Our couples counselors are trained to listen objectively, identify common ground, and get to the heart of the issues you’re dealing with. Some conflicts seem petty or obvious on the surface but really reflect deep-rooted feelings of resentment, pain, or fear. By opening up to a therapist, you give yourselves the opportunity to dig below the surface and mend those wounds.
The Gottman Method is a common approach taken by relationship therapists used to help address common foundational issues such as communication, conflict, and commitment. Clients learn how to use “I” statements when having a disagreement, describe without judging, and complain without blaming. Many couples find these small but meaningful shifts improve their relationships dramatically and help them see each other in a new light.
Other common forms of couples counseling include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and interpersonal therapy. Our couples counselors will work with you to find a form of treatment that makes sense for your concerns and goals. Get in touch with us today at Thriveworks Counseling in San Bernardino, CA to make your first appointment and start working toward a stronger and healthier relationship.
