Marriage is marked with love, laughter, joy, connection, compassion. But we can’t just ignore the not-so-great bits: the anger, the frustration, the disagreements, the mess that we sometimes encounter. Every single couple experiences these bad moments and feelings, too—yes, even the couples that appear perfect. The truth is that none of us are perfect, and our relationships aren’t either. Take a moment to look at these examples:

  1. Allison and Troy have been dating for about a year now. They called it love at first sight, but their connection has been waning. They’ve started to have minor disagreements and they aren’t as excited about their relationship as they were in the beginning.
  2. Joseph and Morgan have never let their differing political opinions harm their relationship. But it’s impossible to keep this streak going with the upcoming election. Lately, they’ve struggled to have a conversation without arguing.
  3. Monica and Alex are both between jobs right now. They’ve been surviving off of Alex’s savings but there isn’t much left to sustain their current lifestyle. They feel insecure and uncertain about their future.

Have you ever experienced one of these challenges in your own relationship? Are you in the throes of one of these challenges right now? Is there a separate challenge that’s pushing your buttons and threatening your relationship?

If you answered yes to any of the above, you might benefit from working with a couples therapist or marriage counselor. Both couples therapy and marriage counseling are led by relationship experts, of whom work to help their clients work through their given problems and improve their relationship. If this sounds like something you’d like to pursue and you live in the state of Indiana, you can schedule online couples therapy or marriage counseling at Thriveworks Indiana Counseling right now.

How Do Online Couples Therapy and Marriage Counseling Work?

Marriage counseling and couples therapy help many couples build the relationships that they’ve dreamed of for months or even years. Now, we know that scheduling a counseling session for you and your partner might be a little intimidating, especially if you’ve never worked with a counselor before. It might help to remember that this is one small step toward a healthier, happier marriage or relationship for you and your partner.

The online couples therapists and marriage counselors at Thriveworks Indiana Counseling can help you in one of two mediums: over the phone or in video chat. In either instance, they can serve as that nonjudgmental, supportive third party who will guide you through tough conversations and steps necessary to rebuilding your relationship. Now, it might also comfort you to know that online counseling comes with many benefits that you might not get in the traditional approach to therapy. These perks include greater comfort, flexibility, reliability, and—of course—convenience.

What Might We Learn in Couples or Marriage Counseling?

The journey that you take with your couples or marriage counselor will depend on what your individual and relationship needs are. Why is this? Because we all have different needs, as do our relationships. Think back to the examples from earlier. One couple struggles to see eye to eye, while another struggles with financial stress. Your Thriveworks Indiana couples therapist or marriage counselor will look at the problems that are prevalent in your lives and relationship. Then, and only then, can they decide a treatment plan that will help you find success.

That said, you can expect to learn the following in working with one of our relationship experts:

  • Communicating more effectively
  • Truly listening to your partner’s needs
  • Building more trust in your relationship
  • Utilizing compassion in problem-solving
  • Approaching challenges with conflict resolution skills

Our couples therapists and marriage counselors are excited for the chance to meet and work with you. To start counseling at Thriveworks Indiana, all you have to do is contact our office. We’ll get you scheduled for your first telephone or video counseling session.

Thriveworks helped me realize that I do believe people can change. I’m not the person I was three months ago, broken and fearful. I’m healthy and happy and for the first time being kind to myself. Thank you for giving me my life back.
