Some people are nice to others, try to help out when they can and follow all the rules. So, you’d think they would be rewarded in some way. But, it seems like so many bad things happen to people who try to live their lives in a truly compassionate way and by being nice to others. Why do good people get illnesses like cancer and have to suffer? Why do innocent children get diseases or get killed? I don’t understand it.
Life is a roller coaster of ups and downs. We all face difficulties—even seemingly unfair ones that we might not deserve. I don’t have a great answer for you, but it helps me to remember that we wouldn’t appreciate the good without the bad. Innocent kids don’t deserve to die, and I don’t think any person deserves to be given a short life sentence thanks to cancer. But difficult times do remind us of everything we should appreciate, and the best thing we can do is live our lives as compassionately and fully as possible until our time here is up.
I also think that sometimes life throws the tough stuff at you just so you can figure out how to deal with hardship…it makes you a more resilient person overall.
