About Crystal
Crystal Chafin is a Resident in Counseling specializing in marriage and family therapy with over 5 years of experience. She assists couples and individuals who have a range of concerns including chronic illness, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, behavioral problems, and substance use disorder. Crystal has experience working with adolescents struggling with gender and sexuality, and with those that have a diagnosis of ADHD and bipolar disorder. She has witnessed firsthand how mental health diagnoses impact the family system and uses that experience to provide a safe space for her clients to share.
Crystal graduated from Capella University with a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy and Addiction Studies. She utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy, Gottman therapy, collaborative therapy, narrative therapy, and mindfulness exercises.
Crystal strives to help others cope with difficult diagnoses and obstacles while creating obtainable therapy goals. She provides a safe space to share feelings, thoughts, and emotions without judgment. Schedule an appointment with her today!

Get to know Crystal
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a counselor because I witnessed firsthand how substances destroyed my family. I also worked in law enforcement and living in a small town there are no resources for those families struggling with their family members being incarcerated.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I truly have a passion in working with substance use disorder, couples, and teens that are struggling with identity.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to continue working with couples, adolescents, and individuals that are struggling with substance use disorder.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all potential clients that it is ok to ask for help it is not a sign of weakness. Everyone needs help sometimes!
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice with Thriveworks due to the reputation that I have seen and speaking to those that work with Thriveworks.
What inspires you?
My inspiration is when you see a client that you have worked so hard with meet a goal and watch how excited they are when they finally secured that job or refrained from using substances.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Our first session with be getting to know each other and to explore what they expect out of therapy.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to accomplish setting tentative goals that they wish to achieve during therapy.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I have been around awhile and have worked with many difference populations. I am here for you and will provide support for what you want to achieve.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I have grandchildren that are the light of my life and I spend my free time with them.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My family defines me and the reason I do what I do.
