Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I decided to be a counselor because I wanted to help others the way that I was helped when I was struggling as an adolescent.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I'm most excited to work with children and teens. I enjoy my work with adults but children and teens have my heart. They inspire me with their resilience and there's something special about building trust with a child or teen and being able to help them to heal and teach them the tools they need for emotional regulation.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that going to therapy doesn't mean that you're "crazy" or "broken" or that there's something wrong with you. Going to therapy simply means that you need a little extra help to handle life transitions, learn communication and problem solving skills, process the past and life events, make a change, and so many other reasons that are equally okay to ask for help for.
What inspires you?
People inspire me. There are people that have so many burdens to bear that I don't know how they handle that get up each day and don't just survive, they thrive. There's a world full of people who have seen terrible things and still go on and work to make the world a better place. I'm amazed by it.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
A lot of questions! In first sessions I want to get all of the background information I can and information about a client's life at present and what they're struggling with to make sure that I fully understand their unique needs and history. They can also expect a lot of information because just as much as I want to understand them I want to make sure that they understand the counseling process and don't walk away from our session with pockets full of unanswered questions.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Most of my free time is spent with my husband and our plethora of pets that require all the pets and snuggles and play time. I also like to read a lot and get lost in Disney+.
