About Lee
Lee Scott is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 11 years of field experience helping clients cope with feelings of stress, anxiety, grief and loss, low motivation, poor self-esteem, low confidence, depression, and emotional fatigue. He has worked with the homeless population, individuals struggling with mental health conditions, and elderly victims of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Lee believes in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. He establishes a healthy and constructive therapist-client relationship by understanding how people’s experiences and beliefs shape how they think about themselves and the world.
Lee received his Master of Social Work from Aurora University. He tailors care to individual needs and uses cognitive behavioral therapy, compassion-focused therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness techniques.

"I believe my role as a therapist is to provide a safe place for people to explore their true feelings without fear of judgment and find their best selves through the exploration of their values and the development of healthy living skills."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I became a therapist because I felt compelled to share in the grief of those I saw suffering. Life can be so hard, and it is made harder still when we try to face our problems alone. I am here. I am listening.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients that struggle with anxious or depressed thoughts and those who struggle to find purpose and meaning. I may challenge you on some of your previously held beliefs and ideas, but I will never judge you for them.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients who struggle with a sense of identity or with emotional pain and stress. I want to provide a safe place where people can be free to be vulnerable, heal from their trauma, and grow into who they want to be.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Your thoughts and feelings do not define who you are. Your decisions decide who you are, and the best part about that is you can always make a different decision.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks provides a platform for me to reach the kind of clients I am excited to work with and provides the support I need to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by small acts of kindness and bravery. Have the courage to try. The trying is what matters.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
My first session with clients will mostly focus on exploring why the client has come to therapy, what they have been experiencing recently, and providing a space for them to share feelings and thoughts they may have held to themselves for a long time. I will listen and ask questions. I will seek understanding and provide compassion.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In the first session I would want to identify what the client believes the problem to be and address whether the client is looking for a way to process and accept the things they may not be able to change and identify the actions they can take to change the things they can to lead them towards wellness.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I am not here to give you advice. I am here to help you identify why you may be struggling in certain areas of your life and provide options that coincide with your values so you can make an informed decision about how you believe you should address it.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I practice martial arts and play fantasy role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons. I like to read or watch stories about people overcoming hardship and I enjoy art that finds beauty in the imperfections and impermanence of life.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I think many would define me by my twisted sense of humor and deep curiosity about the human condition.
