About Sindhu
Sindhu Elagandhala (they/them & she/her) is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). They have years of experience and are passionate in working with clients navigating comorbidities of mood, anxiety, personality, and trauma disorders as well as those seeking to integrate neurotypes such as ADHD and autism. They work with adults, couples, and families who are motivated for the work of therapy.
Sindhu completed their Master's degree (MA) and Education Specialist (Ed.S) degrees at James Madison University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. They engage in creative therapies that primarily utilize tools from emotion-focused therapy (EFT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), internal family systems (IFS), trauma-informed therapy (TIF), and attachment-based (ABT) frameworks.
Individual experiences, trauma, identity, relationships, neurobiology, meaning-making, and overarching systems all shape identities and the ways that we move through the world. Sindhu believes that therapy is the process of understanding these factors that leads us towards a path of change. Navigating your mental health is not something that you have to do alone. The journey and struggles are complex and it is an honor to be invited to join you on that path. If you are ready to do the work, schedule an appointment with Sindhu today.

"As a queer and disabled person of color, I strive to utilize integrative, intersectional, holistic, and non-western frameworks in an approach to therapy that balances both safety and challenge."

What types of clients do you work with best?
The main thing that I look for in a client is whether they are dedicated to therapy. Your desire for growth, change, and understanding gives us a foundation to build upon. If you want to be here, I want to be here with you.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Therapy is work and a non-linear journey. It is not just what happens in the room that contributes to personal growth and change but also how you continue the process between sessions to integrate the tools, techniques, frameworks, and understandings in your day-to-day experience.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In our first session, I will give you information regarding the process of therapy, my approach, and address any questions or concerns that you might have about the work. I will also inquire about your past experiences in therapy, what brought you to working with me, and your relevant personal and psychological history.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I look to get familiar with a client's history that centers details that contribute to and influence our therapeutic work together. I also aim to get a sense of your goals and needs in therapy. In essence, I want to get to know you, let you get to know me, and give us a jumping off point for future sessions. That also means building the foundations for rapport and safety.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
Your safety, comfort, and needs are a priority to me. I embrace neurodiversity and finding an approach to counseling that works for you! I keep fidget tools, art supplies, a sand tray, a weighted blanket, emotion wheels, and more in my office and I encourage you to use them (regardless of your age). If you need to stim, sit on the floor, stand, or use somatic grounding, I support you to do so. If there is something else that would make you comfortable, let's have a discussion to see if we can make it happen. I wear a mask during in-person sessions, run an air-purifier in my office, and regularly disinfect the tools/resources that I provide.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love playing TTRPGs and video games, crocheting, reading, doodling, and more. I currently run 2 homebrew campaigns using a modified version of Dungeon & Dragons 5E.
