About Kristi

Kristi Gannon is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) currently offers tele-health sessions in Virginia specializing in offering treatment to adults and seniors who are faced with the negative effects of anxiety, depression, anger, relationship issues, ADHD, poor coping skills, gender identity issues, stress, trauma, PTSD, women’s issues, and more.

Kristi understands that no single approach to therapy works for every individual, and therefore integrates a variety of therapeutic approaches, such as cognitive-behavioral (CBT), person-centered therapies, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness techniques to help clients achieve their desired goals.

Kristi is passionate about the work she does with her clients and uses a collaborative approach to empower clients in taking control of their own recovery. She offers an empathic, non-judgmental, and safe atmosphere that promotes growth and healing.

Get to know Kristi

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I've had a lot of people in and out of my life struggle with mental health and substance use issues. As an empath, it's been challenging watching people close to me endure so much suffering. I decided that I wanted to make a difference in someone's life to help them with similar kinds of struggles.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I love working with clients who are motivated to make positive changes in their life. I won't lie - therapy is hard work! I find that clients who are very highly motivated are able to achieve their goals faster because they are able to put forth the effort and self-reflection that goes into it.

What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?

I wish that all my clients knew going into therapy that there is no "magic button" or "quick fix" to resolve your problems. If that was the case, us therapists would all be out of jobs by now! Complicated problems often have many contributing factors that go into them and can take years to develop overtime. However, sometimes the solutions can be more easily found with the support and guidance from another person (like your therapist)!

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

In my first session with clients, they can expect that I will ask them a lot of different questions about their background. I'm here to get to know and understand my client's experiences - the good, the bad, and even the ugly! That being said, I will never expect that my clients share everything about themselves in our first session. I emphasize to my clients that it is more important to me for them to feel comfortable in their experience with me in therapy and to assess if I am the right fit for them as their therapist. I am open to answering any questions they may have about the therapy process, my personal and/or educational background, or my treatment modalities.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I enjoy so many things in my free time! I like spending time with my husband and my adorable pets. I love listening to music, playing piano, and creating art. If I'm feeling more active, I like to take walks with my dog or do some kickboxing. If I'm feeling less active, I enjoy playing video games, watching TV/movies/Youtube videos, and reading.
