About Brian
Life's journey can rough. Not every path is smooth or easy and many are difficult and even dangerous. There are times we need someone to walk with us; perhaps help us find a new direction. Having someone that understands because they've been there, makes all the difference in the world. Brian Ede is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the Commonwealth of Virginia, who has 30 years of experience working alongside individuals, couples and families seeking help with depression, anxiety, addiction, life transitions, relationship issues, men's issues, trauma and PTSD. He has completed his Bachelor of Social Work from Dordt College and received his Masters of Social Work from the University of Iowa.
Brian utilizes an eclectic approach including cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, mindfulness, solution focused approaches to therapy. He likes to incorporate unique and creative approaches in his practice that best meets the needs of every unique individual, couple and family.
Brian seeks to help you though those difficult paths, by offering a warm, caring and nonjudgmental relationship with you. He will build upon your strengths and help with tools that have you work toward your goals and working toward those things in life that you value.

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
In college I had a difficult time finding out what I wanted to do with my life. I stumbled across a social work class and found my calling and passion. I feel called to assist people who are struggling in their journey and help empower them with the joys and the pains in life.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients that are ready to work. Who may have fears and concerns but are ready to take them on be empowered in their life.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I'm excited to work with any client that is willing to look at themselves and their life and want to make changes to find contentment and peace in their life.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
There is no right way to do counseling.

I like the platform and flexibility to meet in person or virtually that meets the needs of those using Thriveworks.

Nature and creativity inspires me.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect non-judgment, empathy and support.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy spending my time off with family, reading, fishing if the season is right.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
One thing that defines me non-professionally is family.
