I’m Veronica Rivera, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC). I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Houston and a Master of Arts in Counseling with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health from Sam Houston State University. I work with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, stress, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, and parenting challenges. I help clients develop healthier coping skills, build confidence, and improve their overall well-being.

My approach is collaborative and individualized to each client’s needs and goals. I use evidence-based interventions, psychoeducation, and practical coping strategies to help clients gain insight, recognize patterns, build on their strengths, and develop skills they can use in their everyday lives.

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, and you don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin. We can start with what feels most important to you and take things one step at a time. When you’re ready, I invite you to schedule an appointment to see if we’re a good fit.

"As a bilingual counselor, I recognize the important role culture, family, and life experiences can play in how we understand ourselves, our relationships, and the challenges we face."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I decided to become a counselor because I genuinely love helping people and supporting them through life’s challenges. I believe there are seasons in life when we simply need someone to walk alongside us, listen without judgment, and meet us where we are. The opportunity to hold space for others and provide individualized care is what drew me to counseling and continues to make this work meaningful to me.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with adolescents and adults who are navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, stress, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, or parenting challenges. I especially enjoy working with clients who are looking for a supportive space to process what they are experiencing, better understand themselves, develop healthier coping skills, and make changes that feel meaningful to them.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

Healing is not always a straight path, and progress looks different for everyone. Not every counselor will be the right fit for you, and that is ok. Finding someone you feel comfortable with and can trust is an important part of the process. You do not have to have everything figured out to begin. Sometimes, simply showing up is enough.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In our first session, my focus is on getting to know you, understanding what brings you to therapy, and helping you feel comfortable in the process. I believe therapy should move at a pace that honors your individual needs and readiness. We will take the time to build trust and work together toward the goals that are most meaningful to you.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

Life has taught me that we often do not know what someone has experienced or what they may be carrying with them. I value approaching people with curiosity rather than assumptions and taking the time to understand the person behind the circumstances. This perspective reminds me to remain open, compassionate, and respectful of each client’s story.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I believe you are the expert on your own life. I take the time to understand your perspective, what feels important to you, and what you need from therapy. I honor your pace and direction while offering support, insight, and tools that are meaningful to you and your experiences.
