Get to know Traci

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I like most people. I’ve always been curious about why people do the things they do and how they got to their current place in life. I especially enjoy helping people change their behavior and/or life circumstances by changing the way they think.

What types of clients do you work with best?

Adolescents and adults with some capacity for insight and the willingness to make changes.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

Adolescents, adults and senior adults who are motivated to engage in therapy and learn some new things about themselves.

What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?

Emotions are chemically-based and can be managed. They don’t HAVE to be acted upon and even strong emotions can be channeled to motivate oneself toward productive, adaptive behavior changes

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I want to work with people who want to work on themselves!

What inspires you?

People who are strong enough, smart enough and brave enough to ask for help when needed.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

A ton of questions as I get to know you! Also, some interruptions for more questions (a character flaw I’m working on :) Seriously, our first session is a get-to-know each other conversation where we discuss why you are seeking therapy, the changes you’d like to make and how we will decide when/if therapy is helping or if we need to do something differently.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I want to get a good, solid history, make sure the person is comfortable, answer any questions about how therapy works and begin to set some therapeutic goals.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

I’ve worked in inpatient and outpatient settings for more than 17 years. I will NOT be shocked, horrified, disgusted or judgmental about anything you choose to share.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I read a lot, go to kids’ sports, eat out with friends.

What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

My friends say I’m funny…I say I’m honest.
