About Tarissa
Tarissa Klander is a Resident Licensed Master Social Worker, who is being supervised by Nicole Stark LCSW-S, with 5 years of experience. She specializes in assisting individuals struggling with abuse, addiction, family conflict, mental health, sexual identity, and grief, among other issues. Before becoming a counselor, Tarissa worked in a variety of settings including schools and non-profits. She is a daughter, partner, animal lover, fur momma, bonus mom, and ally. She loves doing yard work, spending time with her family and pets, and watching a good documentary as self-care.
Tarissa received her Master’s in Social Work from Tarleton State University. Her favorite approaches in the counselor-client dynamic are person-centered therapy, strength-based therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy.
Tarissa understands that when a person seeks counseling services they open up the most vulnerable parts of themselves. With a broad range of personal and professional experience, Tarissa works diligently to be an empathetic and nonjudgmental sense of support. Reach out to her today!

"I believe that each person is the expert on their life, and as a passionate advocate I desire to be a support in providing empathy, compassion, and authenticity in navigating challenges."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
The choice to become a counselor is stemmed from personal and professional experiences and realizing that I wanted to do more than just "help people", rather I desire to be someone that will stand in the trenches with you.
What types of clients do you work with best?
From professional experience I work best with clients that have experienced trauma, abuse, grief, and LGBTQIA community.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with any clients that are seeking support and encouragement.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I am a person just like you, and understanding that our realities may differ but I choose to be beside you in the ups and downs of life.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks offers a broad scope of areas in which people may choose to obtain support, rather than being limited to one specific mental, emotional, relational, or personal area.
What inspires you?
I am consistently inspired by people, experiences, and resiliency.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In the first session my goal is to discuss the importance of confidentiality, mandated reporting, and the counselor-client dynamic.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
My hope is to begin laying the foundation of the counselor-client dynamic and begin building rapport.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I am here to be a support, with the understanding I may not have all the answers or solutions, rather someone to navigate life with side-by-side.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love being with my family, my fur babies, and going on new adventures no matter how big or small.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
One thing that is definitive of myself is authenticity and willingness to be ever evolving. Allowing myself to be authentic no matter the situation or person I am around, in my view, is one of the purest forms of connection.
